Screen wash wiring issues?

Featured Replies

Over the past few months, the screen wash on my 2017 2.0 SEL Drive has had an intermittent fault. Sometimes the motor fires, sometimes it doesn't. It's now decided to pack up completely.

The headlamp washer still works on every 10 pulls as specified.

Yesterday I put a voltmeter across the screen washer plug on the motor. On first pull, the headlight washers fire and the meter briefly (less then a second) reads 12v before dropping to 0. Subsequent pulls have no affect on the meter.

I can only assume I have a wiring issue. The problem first started soon after I changed the oil filter, when I had to push the wiring loom to the side that sits under the filter to gain access. I'm not sure if this is a red herring as I can find out what that bit of the loom controls.

Is anyone able to suggest where I go from here?

TIA

Thoroughly check the wiring where you moved it to fit the filter.

Do you know if that wiring powers the washer? There is a joint in the loom casing at that point which has come apart so you can see the wires inside slightly, but they look ok. If there power does run there, I can strip it back and check each wire, but don't want to risk further damage if they aren't relevant wires.

Headlamp washer has its own, separate motor, doesn't it?
