K03S Hybrid or K04 upgrade?

Featured Replies

I’m sure this has been done to death and there is a lot of information out there. I have tried to pull info from the various groups on Facebook but as a non-Facebook user. I find the whole system terrible!

I have a very nice condition 05, vRS. This is my fifth MK1. My plan is to make this a usable road car and have enough performance for Track Days.

I do have a K04 turbo with the twin downpipe and a matching manifold and was going to fit this. Considering the problems with marrying up and exhaust system and other alterations that are required, my thoughts have moved to fitting the K03S hybrid turbo. I would couple this with a sports cat and 3 inch.Miltech or similar exhaust system. I have a set of BAM injectors and the larger silicon inlet pipe ready to go.

I am looking at power gains in the high 200s if possible, a minimum of 250 BHP and so I’m looking for answers regarding choices, pros and cons.

Thanks in advance.

Given the amount of Tuning out there for these 20 valve engines, I’m surprised that no one has any advice? Maybe those that modify have moved on to younger models?

There is loads of information and groups on Facebook but I absolutely detest the format and find it impossible to navigate. I comparison this forum is brilliant.

KO3 hybrid easier to fit, KO4 from what I remember you also have to change inlet manifold as throttle bodies are at opposite ends, KO4's also take you into torque rod bending territory, unless you've already changed them. KO4-001 used to be an option straight swap for a KO3s gave around 260bhp and bit more torque, K300 was another option but same as KO4 watch the torque. BAM injectors struggle with anything from about 320bhp. With regards to your other thread Intercooler's 60mm piping was generally used for KO3s and 76mm(welly cooler) for anything else, alot of tuners have moved on from 1.8T 20v due to age, Badger5 still active with this engine and some of the American companies(eg 034) still do tuning parts for the 1.8T as it is still a popular engine over the pond.
