1.2 tsi cyvb oil leak from manifold

Featured Replies

Last year I had the oil separator replaced with new hose which connects to the inlet manifold. All good for months, now I have found oil down the front from higher up that tracks all the way down to the engine torque mount.

After cleaning it all up and attaching a clip to the new pipe which wasn’t at all tight on connector I can see oil around the outside of the connector as if this is screwed in or a separate part which is moulded into the manifold during manufacture.

Has anyone had experience with this manifold as its different to the earlier 1.2 engine? Searches brought up nothing, I don’t want to replace the whole thing when something like the PCV on the cam cover would stop this but then do not want to go needless part swapping if it can be avoided. I do not know the layout of the manifold and whether there is a none return in there somewhere. It looks like there should be, when the engine is boosting you don’t want it pushing air down there. They normally work so when its on load it closes then draws the gases out off load. I think? 😕

I forgot to mention, as you can see in the 2nd photo there was some kind of dark grey sealant around the manifold as if it was leaking before and someones tried to stop it 😳

These kinds of leaks don’t stop with sealant applied to the outside.

spot the difference (it's the hyperlink on mine, to encourage others by providing a direct link rather than needing to copy & paste, or perhaps it looks different on your device).

Good luck anyway I hope you get it sorted.

Unfortunately someone has moved it out of the general maintenance area where I was hoping to get more exposure of this engine.
No idea why, when you look there a lot of posted about specific cars instead of in the relative section yet they still stay there 🤨

When did that happen, I didn't notice. You could 'Report' your original post and give your reason for this thread to be returned to the 'General Maintenance' forum. To 'Report' click-on the three dots at the top right corner to get the drop-down menu, the message will go to a Moderator.

Good luck.

Take the throttle body off and see how much oil has accumulated in the manifold under it.

Mop out any you find, taking care not to drop anything into the mani.

Then, if there was a lot, consider researching the oil separator and PCV system on this engine and ensure all parts of it are in good working order.

If you're lucky you might find a Self Study Programme for the engine online.

I'm not sure if my Yeti has the same engine as yours or if it could be related but several years ago I had a constant smell of oil in the car, really noticeable when driving. A local garage had a look at it for me but couldn't find anything but didn't charge me. For which I'm thankful. I'm not really mechanically minded but decided nothing to lose by having a bit of a poke around (just fingers, no tools so whilst I might have electrocuted myself hopefully I'd not damage the car). Doing this I found a loose pipe, maybe 8mm diameter which should have connected to one arm of a tee joint but it had broken. Stiffness in the three pipes meant it wasn't obvious to the eye there was a break. A quick search on eBay and I found the little three arm connector for a couple of pounds, carefully removed the broken piece of pipe from the tube (I didn't want it to disappear into the engine through my clumsiness), connected the three hoses and the problem was solved! Once I'd found the break it was five minutes work even for the technically challenged. (Or four hours labour plus parts at a main dealer; me? cynical? how dare you!). I didn't have any noticeable oil leak, or maybe I just didn't notice, but yours might be a similar situation. Worth having a good prod around and see if anything moves more than you think it should?

General Maintenance "is for general questions only... If the question concerns a Skoda model, use the model forums."

If other Skoda Owners are posting in there with problems on Skoda cars report them.

Admin don't have time to trawl every new post.

Fortunately there's some helpful members who do so and Admin can then action things.

Yeah im not reporting them, theres a fair few on the last 2 pages quickly looking under the title so if they can take the time to move mine which didn’t even mention Yeti in the title Im sure they can spot the ones that do mention models 🙄
The thing is, I didn’t even mention it being model specific because it is not. Its engine specific, theres got to be more VAG cars with the same engine. And I have reported my issue to mod but have had no response, so theres no point in reporting others to clearly ignoring the forum instructions.

Yeah Ive had the obligatory look on overtime at work during the day 🤣 Couldn’t find anything and the cam cover breather none return worked perfectly.
I may change it as its not expensive anyway and the cars done nearly 150k so whats to lose.

According to Autoparts 24's website the Octavia (and other VAG cars of course) had the CYVB engine, I have no idea how accurate this information is of how much, or not, the engine installations and bits associated the engine vary in these models but you could perhaps do a search for your issue or CYVB issues in the Octavia section of this site, or Google search which will probably bring you to this section, forum, post(s) on this site and perhaps other sites.

Cheers, Google just brought me back here to my own post 😂 I always search first before posting, I got fed up after over a week of trying.

Yes Google is much more openly the advertising site than it used to be so you do need to search more pages after the first page and I remove the "AI" (it's not) bit by clicking-on the 'More' tab to get the drop down there to click-on 'Web'.

Doing this got me 5 pages, lots to YouTube, with the search term "1.2 tsi cyvb oil leak from manifold" and there was mention of your issue but I didn't go deeper.
