Tailgate closing with me inside!

Featured Replies

I've had several occasions with my '25 L+K estate where the tailgate hatch has started closing while I'm leaning right into the load area. I haven't climbed in -- my feet are still on the ground -- but it's when I'm leaning in to pack or unpack things at the base of the rear seatback. I haven't pressed anything on the key or the door close button. It just starts beeping and the gate starts lowering. I would have thought that sensing movement inside the boot space was no harder than detecting a foot waved underneath the bumper. is there some tailgate autoclose feature/timer that I can adjust? (Also, as I've discovered it IS possible to drive off with the tailgate open, when you would have thought that was a scenario when you WOULD want the tailgate to shut if it found itself open when you got to the speed where the parking sensors and view turn off and you're in normal drive mode!)

best,

M.

Your feet activate virtual pedal. Mine does the same.

For this very reason, I've turned off the "virtual pedal" foot sensor which opens/closes the boot. Don't miss that particular function in the slightest, and can now lean into the boot without it trying to eat me.

I pack the trunk regularly every two other week for business trip or just every weekend for the groceries and it never happened to me even when standing close or almost leaning on the rear bumper to pack or grap the things stored by the rear bench.

Maybe you have a faulty foot sensor in the bumper?

Two months into ownership of my estate, I thought the virtual pedal would prove to be a gimmick. However, it has been genuinely useful on several occasions when approaching the car with my hands full.

The tailgate has started to close on me once - but the beep gave me enough warning to save myself. I just figured it was my fault for having such big feet. Certainly not enough of an issue to prompt me to turning the function off.
