Key/lock advice

Featured Replies

Someone who is harassing me and damaging my property, has been unlocking my 2010 Octavia without setting the alarm off, and damaging the interior and items inside. They had access to my car keys as they had copied my house keys, I had to change my house locks. Is it possible to take the key and fob and have both copied that allow the car to be opened, alarm deactivated and start the engine?  Can VCDS or other software delete a key from the locking system, or do I need to go to an auto locksmith?  Would deleting the key work or do I need to have the locks and chip changed?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Sorry to hear of your problem. Have you reported this to the Police?

Yes, a lot of vehicle key fobs can be copied with appropriate hardware.

Probably your best option would be an auto locksmith. Deleting the offending key might work - but if your key has actually been copied (or cloned) doing this will probably delete your key also.

Even if the offending key was deleted, the vehicle can still be unlocked by using the physical emergency key cylinder.

Definitley a job for the Police. I would inform them of what is going on ASAP if you havent already and see if you can set up some cctv to catch whoever is doing it in the act. An autolocksmith will be able to recode keys etc but as said if the person has had one cut/cloned they can access manually. You could see if any local scrapyards can supply you with locks and key so you can change them. Still going to cost you which isn't fair. Might be worth contacting your insurance as one of my policies a few years back covered replacement keys/locks if they were stolen/lost.

Thanks for the replies. The criminal is my former neighbour, I have tried cabled POE IP CCTV, however, they are using an interference device that temporarily disables live video. Will the police do anything without evidence? If I had the keys deleted and mine added back on, if the criminal tried to unlock the car with the physical key would that set the alarm off?

My insurance covers If the car key, or any other device used to unlock your car, is lost or stolen in the UK. If the locks need replacing do I need to contact my insurer before having them replaced?

Thanks

On the Mk3 the alarm will activate if the vehicle is unlocked using the emergency cylinder - I assume the Mk2 is similar.

You would need to notify your insurance provider before replacing any lock.

Yes don,t do anything before speaking to them. I would tell them that the keys were stolen/cloned and someone is accessing car. They will probably have an approved auto locksmith that they use and if you do anything yourself will probably not pay out. Might be worth explaining situation to them. As far as I know cloning keys and accessing a vehicle without permission and causing damage are all criminal offences and the police should do something. Hope you get it sorted.

@Ultima You know if the Police will do anything once you speak with them. Station, on phone or via the Community Officer or who ever. & put your concerns in writing to The Police. PS. Since you know what is happening you need a Police report number and to tell your Insurers now of attacks on the vehicle.
