Where can I get help with upgrading my instrument cluster?

Featured Replies

Hi all, I'm looking to upgrade my 2014 Fabia with a better instrument cluster that sports the maxidot display as well as the additional coolant temp/fuel analogue gauges. Also for the maxidot, I believe the steering wheel needs the upgrade to the multifunctional version to control the display, so I would be interested with having that done as well.

I've already phoned a couple places like Cartronix in which I thought that their term "replace" would also describe what I'm looking to have done but so far I've had no luck with services that I have googled. Either I'm looking in the wrong places or perhaps it's a rare job to do, I'm not sure, but if anyone could help point me in the right direction that would be really helpful.

I've heard of the guy known as Eddie-NL on this forum before who has fitted these but it seems that he is no longer online or available as of a couple years now.

I am able to source the parts and just need a service to help fit and recode the cluster properly.

Thank you for any help.

r/skoda - The one I'm asking about

for the mfsw it's quite easy you can find my guide here: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/538152-replace-steering-wheel-with-mfsw/#comment-5999427

for the maxidot I'm trying to do it my self but it's quite difficult and the material needed is a bit too expensive to do it jus one time for this reason i would like to suggest to look here: https://3dcolormfd.com/ I've contacted them and they do the greendot cluster of the fabia mk2 FL, they offer way more funtion than the maxidot and there isn't the trouble and cost to clone the cluseter parameter as the EEPROM miles or kms alignment key programming and all that come with a cluster swap. For the other things I'm sorry but I'm not uk based so I'm not able to provide advice on who is able to do the job.

I am on the same boat as the op, but ok a pre FL one I have the absolute basic cluster I have been able to acquire the MFA+ (bigger screen cluster), and I have been able to read the eeprom on both is not difficult however that’s when am stuck at as I’d like to clone the immobiliser and odometer data but the files are difficult to understand, as far as I can comprehend if am able to identify the block for the immobiliser and the odometer is as simple as just copying from the original pasting and replacing the block on the donor and re uploading the .bin file to the donor cluster but there is very limited info about the positions of information on the bin files

No worries, thanks so much for the advice already, that's a really helpful guide on the steering wheel. As for the instrument cluster, if I'm unable to find anywhere to swap out the whole thing, I think I will indeed settle on just doing the maxidot change myself like you and thank you for the link to help with that.

I hope there is somewhere in the UK that could help with the full cluster upgrade as I would prefer to avoid going the technical and difficult but commendable route that Cachorro is with trying to recode the cluster legally.

You’re welcome, yes I’m interested in the cluster swap but is in hold at the moment I’m considering others retrofit for now, I’ve already done:

  • oem front and rear ops

  • Rear electric windows

  • Headlight washer

  • Montecarlo seats and heating element

  • MFSW

  • Cornering light via fog light

  • Xds and hill hold (coding via vcds)

  • Tpms switch

    Work in progress

  • oem anti theft system (I need to just do the wiring I have all the components)

  • Front passenger occupancy detection (same situation for the anti theft)

  • Working on the wiring system for the cornering headlight (I have already the AFS module)

  • Abs module 9.0i

  • Working on the wiring system for the Climatronic (auto a/c system)

The coding it is a pain and I’ve had to go that way as like you haven’t been able to find anyone that can help with it, I consider myself to be technically savvy so decided to give it a try with ChatGPT as a helper but I’ve not been able to crack it yet and there seems not to be much info not to mention that the .bin files have encryption as well, but I’ve been able to get pass that bit lol, but am stuck as I said in the understanding what to change I know it is possible as other people have done it is just not documented well enough for me to follow lol, was about to open a post asking when I saw yours and said we might both get some help from people here :) hopefully

When the next week comes around and businesses are back, I'm going to call some independent garages (specifically VAG specialists) to see if there's anyone in them who might be familiar with VCDS and able to help or at least entertain the idea enough for some advice. I'll update with any further findings so anyone in the same boat of needing their cluster recoded can hopefully benefit

Alright well I chatted to an independent garage near where I live and, although the guy said he had never been asked this before, he did say that he would be able to fit and recode a new cluster but that questions on compatibility/etc would be outside his current range of knowledge on this specific kind of upgrade. He did however mention several european services that he has access to that know the absolute ins and outs of VAG cars which is why I believe this is the route to go if anyone is wanting to go ahead with this upgrade! Have a look around for any VAG specialist independent garages near you and they could be similar or even more knowledgeable.

Personally, I have recently found out about OBD2 displays that can show me the exact parameters I have been looking for and are generally more affordable, so my plans to go further with upgrading my cluster gauges will be put aside until I feel the need later on to upgrade from an OBD2 display (such as wanting to eventually have proper analogue gauges rather than digital ones).

I believe I'll still be looking into at least swapping my minidot to maxidot as that is more feasible for now plus what Jack mentioned sounds great:
