Cambelt and water pump - dealer vs independent

Featured Replies

Just bought a superb s3 190 l & k on 85k. Just in the process of ensuring everything's services and right. 4 new Continental tyres and alignment , dsg service just done and few little bits and bobs to tidy it up .

Luckily it has come with a free service as part of a service plan from skoda , so will be going in next week for full service , Brake fluid change and all filters to be changed . My question here is I've got the option to do cambelt and water pump with main dealer and just wondering if anyone has any experience getting it done from skoda . They are quoting £890. My trusted independent i have used for years is quoting £780 . For the extra £100 im thinking go with main dealer but just curious to know people's opinions. Thanks .

2 years parts and labour warranty with Original Parts at the Main Dealers.

I have my L+K Superb Estate done at an independent with parts sourced from TPS, VW group originals each time. Was very handy when a TPS supplied auxiliary drive belt gave up and totalled the engine. Skoda then had to supply and fit a new engine. I may spend slightly more than getting pattern parts, but I do at least have that peace of mind.

Personally I'd go with the dealer for the 2 year warranty with it only being £90 more. I had shock absorbers replaced under the extended warranty. Just under 2 years later it had a MOT at Skoda under its service plan. They failed it on the front shock for misting, when I pointed it out it was less than two years old they replaced it using the parts warranty. Unfortunately my dealer wanted £1050 for the cam belt and pump. Paid £750 at independent specialist.

Go with the main dealer for peace of mind, having mine done next week at Skoda for £807.

Thanks for the advice . Dealer it is

It’s all about cost vs risk. My independent uses genuine parts from TPS but only charges £640. My car had it done by previous owner 30,000 miles ago so it will be a while before I need it done again. But will be going to them when the time comes.

@doddy08 i dont know if your car is petrol or diesel but there is a wet belt on the oil pump drive in the 2.0 litre diesel i was goin to see the price to get that done when i get the cambelt done

this is a great video that gives you an idea of whats done

It’s a wet belt in that it runs inside the oil but not the same issue as the ford eco boost engineers etc. no history of failure supposedly.
