Skoda Superb 3.6 v6 timing chain etc.

Featured Replies

Getting estimates generally around £4000 to replace timing chains, water pump and ancillaries. Is this realistic or a “go away” price? If anyone knows where the job can be done well and cheaper please advise.

Welcome to the forum.

4K! Sounds far too high to me - I'd have thought less than 1/2 that depending on what other ancillaries you're wanting replaced.

How many estimates have you had?

I ran a mock quote for chains, belts, tensioners/idlers and water pumps on a 2010 3.6L R36 on ClickMechanic - price inc. vat came to just over £1600.

Is Ashtead within your reach? You could try getting a quote from Vagtek.

Hello Warrior193, thank you for that. I was moderately surprised at the size of the estimates I’ve been receiving. I think the parts weigh in at around £1000 using OEM. So I guessed at about £2000 all in. What do I know. I live nearby Brighton so if that’s Ashtead (Leatherheadish) then yes it’s well within range. Where is Vagtek please. Google gives me one in Waterlooville.

I would like a Mk2 Superb. However, if £4000 is the price for what is essentially a service schedule job; then I will start looking at 2.0 tdi models.

Try VAS Technical, Ashtead, Surrey. 198 Burntwood Lane, KT21 2DB. Phone 01372 940576.

I used to use them for servicing both our cars when they were based in Surbiton, but have only used once or twice after they moved to Ashtead - I found another good garage much nearer to me a couple of years ago.
