Towbar wiring loom plug?

Featured Replies

Hi have recently fitted a Westfalia towbar to my car, I have been told by a few people including a very nice AA man attending my Wifes car that there is a plug located in the boot wiring loom for factory fit towbar so that the lucky Skoda engineers just have to plug it in. If it can be found its just a case of cutting the plug of and wiring the in it. Dont suppose anyone has any idea if this it true and where it might be?

Cheers All Bryan

It isn't on the fabia I fitted with an OEM kit but it was very simple. You remove a couple of wires from the connectors, replace them with ones in the kit and the one's you'e removed go into a new lug supplied.

Which type of towbar did you fit, just wondering what a Westfalia would look like compared to a Brink ?

There isnt a plug, you have to connect through the light units using the kit.

Marcusfordus, the Westfalia towbar is completely hidden, most people i tell i've got a towbar think i've got a screw loose because it cant be seen at all and then think it amazing when i demonstrate it to them. The removable swan neck has a spring loaded catch so you just locate it into the main bar behind the bumper and it clicks in place all you have to is take the key out the lock and its fitted , so easy, the electics are on a pull down bracket thats also hidden right up behind the bumper, and too top it of the bumper is already cut out to take this towbar so no nervy cutting. I havent seen the brink towbar but I doubt its better hidden that the Westfalia towbar and the Westfalia is German engineered! Over the weekend I'll put some picks on so you can see how brilliant is!

Sounds like the detatchable Skoda one to me.

That's right, I beleive that one of the Skoda towbars is Manufactured by Westfalia, but the difference is mine cost

I think that must be right Bryan, I fitted a Westfalia detachable towbar to my Golf Mk4 and it seems to be exactly the same as the factory fit item right down to the detachable swan neck when detached fitting into the empty cutout for the factory item in the polystyrene holder located with the spare wheel ! :D

I suspect they must be a supplier to VAG.

I concur with everything you say about Westfalia detachable towbars, totally invisible when detached, not too difficult to fit and a substantial saving on the factory item by buying direct.

Mine is a Brink...supplied by the Skoda dealer when new, complete with Skoda part no label attatched. Again, the removable neck fits the polistyrene cutout perfectly. I was even able to order a second neck from Brink.

Hi, I have the octavia II westfalia detachable and I fully endorse what you are saying mate. It blew me away, everyone keeps saying when are you having your towbar fitted!! There is a slight bumper cut to the octy but you really cannot tell 'till you get down on your knees and look for it!

Yes, did lots of research before getting my wetfalia; and brink, witter detachable have visible cuts on the octavia. The only other one I might have considered was bossal but then someone told me the skoda dealer fit bar is really a westy...?

Why would you want to cut the plug off ! just plug the correct wiring kit into it, dont forget you might have problems if you just connect to the existing wiring with the bulb fail system

Steve

I thought the tow bar wiring loom was like the Octy's, one end to the towbar socket, and 2 other end to each light socket to join the existing lighting loom.
