2016 Octavia Mk3. Intermittent cruise control issue. I love cruise control! When it does work (having randomly flicked the stalk switch to check if it is in the mood), it stays on for 2 or 3 minutes, disengages and then the orange light comes on. I've been told it is a unit replacement (€350 -€450!). Ive tried cleaning inside the stalk. Woked for a bit but...... Any suggestions before I replace the unit?

You almost certainly have a broken wire in the steering column unit. Disassemble and inspect the wiring.

Might be worth getting it scanned as well. It could be a failing brake switch or if fitted dirty front radar sensor.

Gents, thank you both for the suggestions. I will try both and let you know how I get on. One additional observation, whenever I turn the key to position 1, beforestarting the engine, if the compass is displayed immediately, the cruise control error comes on. If it pauses before displaying the compass, goes through a 'cucle' cruise control option is displayed. After a few minutes - 3 to 4 - cc cuts out abruptly and the error (orange light) reappears. Suggestions welcome.
