Skoda Octavia mk.2 2.0 tdi Elegance, ENGINE & DPF light on

Featured Replies

Hello

My skoda start keeping rpm in neutral around 900 to 950, yesterday i went for ride on motorway and engine light came on then few minutes after dpf light came on. Drove for 2 hours no issuses turbo works fine also power is fine, traffic was cray so was not able keep driving in high rpm. Will only driving in high RPM help to clear out or not? Should i use dpf additive? also it is 182k miles... Today i started the car in the morning and rpm was at normal.also dpf light is gone but engine light is still on. Then after short drive went to neutral and rpm back to 900-950 should i be worried? thanks

Mine regenerates DPF without light on and is around 1000rpm at idle. If the DPF and EML light are on it could be clogged dpf but it may be a sensor thats failing and car has gone into limp mode. I would perhaps get it scanned for fault codes to see if it narrows it down.

Dpf light is long few days now but engline still on also no limp mode drives fine no shortage in power. I been told by mechanic i shoukd do few more long journeys with higher rpm and should be good

If EML light is on there will be a fault code or codes stored. I would get it scanned. It could be as simple as a bad o2/lamda sensor or maf sensor. Either one or both can cause excess soot and quickly block DPF causing multiple regens.

Exactly, you need a proper diagnosis. It may be simple, but I doubt it, the car will auto reg en during a 2 hour drive without the higher revs. If the car ticks over at the normal 800ish rpm you may be lucky.

If it’s still at 1k rpm. I personally would get a known DPF Competent shot to diagnose the issue.

Most garages either don’t have the required equipment to correctly diagnose the issue. Don’t take the “delete dpf” offer as if the garage is one of the majority it won’t help in the long term.

Someone like Baz is what you need

Thanks, will get booked to VAG specialist for diagnostics , hopefully outcome won't be nothing crazy expensive

So my engine light is not showing anymore and my rpm in neutral is back to normal, why that could be

It might have just taken a few goes to do a decent regen, and after that, taken some time to register everything is now ok.

Hi just wondering, 2017 skoda superb, dpf light has been coming on this past month, every 300 miles or so, goes out after drive in lower gear for 10 minutes. Took it to a mechanic, he said it's doing successful regens and the level is good 12 gram. But this light has never come on before since have car 5 years ago.

Wondering if anyone ever tried redex dpf cleaner? I'm tempted to give it a go in case there's a blockage

Thanks

How is the car driven now. In the past it was good enough to regenerate the dpf.

Short or long runs? If it’s only short runs, your issue is most likely there.

The dpf needs to get hot for longish periods of time, 20 minutes is reasonable. A decent A road, dual carriageway or motorway would get the engine/dpf up to temp and give the dpf time to regenerate.

Engine speed when warm at idle give an indication. If the engine is ticking over at 800 rpm, all is fine. At 1,000 rpm it needs a regen and the longer run normally returns idle back to 800.

Car seems to be running fine, feel a bit of a judder at times, mainly short runs this past year, it used to do longer runs, due to different work schedule. I'm thinking of putting a dpf cleaner in, to see if it stops the light coming on every few hundred miles, wonder is it safe to use?

Thanks

I’ve owned VAG group Diesels for 33 years or so, never needed to add a DPF cleaner, I do use a fuel additive.

However, my cars have always been driven enough miles in a week to allow the DPF to regulate itself with no outside help needed. A run of 20 ish miles at 2,000 revs is enough to keep the engine/DPF running well.

Does your car run a regen at all (increased oil temp and revs at tick over). If it is but not running long enough to regen?

If so the issue is your mileage/driving style. Running at least once a week for 20 miles preferably on A roads/dual carriageways. Will return your car to normal operation.

A DPF cleaner “should” resolve the problem, but only for a short period before it starts again.

Modern diesels are not designed for short stop start journeys long term.

I have always exceeded 6k miles per year.

This is what I use:

Millers Oils Diesel Power Ecomax Fuel Additive Treatment

Car seems to idle at just under 1000, only had this dpf light after last service, I went to a different garage than usual go to, it would hardly be because of different brand of oil?

Noticed a week after service the dpf light, first time it came on since owned car 5 years ago

Seems to light up every 3-400 miles then goes off after driving in lower gear for 10 mins

Often hear radiator fan coming on for few minutes after a drive also

Regardless of the Brand of oil was it 5w 30 FS III. ? (VW 504 00 / 507 00) Do you ever run it on Premium Diesel? Worth getting a tank full in. IMO.

Yea it was 5w30 valvoline oil, never used it before

I just get diesel in same place for years, what's premium diesel? I thought all

I am running BP Ultimate Diesel and my engine is Smoke and smell free. It was reeking on Tesco or Asda Diesel. In a Shogun i had i used Gulf Super Diesel but they have changed it to EvoUltra which is HVO and too expensive just now compared to the BP Premium or Esso Synergy Supreme + diesel. No harm in even putting in half a tank when you are nearly empty. They are a higher Cetane.

I don't see option at local stations for premium diesel, all seem to be b7 same pumps.

Warning came on again this morning it took longer this time for light to go out, about 30 minute drive in 4th gear at 2000+ revs. Not sure if adding the dpf cleaner will make it better or worse! Maybe it will try to regen more then, I think it lowers the temp for regens to happen

Premium Diesel is Still B7. Can have up to 7% Bio-Diesel mixed with 93% regular diesel. (That is except the Gulf Evo Ultra.) Any of the places i go will maybe have 4 or more Diesel pumps, & maybe just 1 with Premium Diesel. Shell V-Power Diesel., Esso Synergy Supreme+, Texaco Premium Diesel, BP Ultimate. Costco does Premium Diesel or regular Derv. ASDA, TESCO, or Sainsbury just do regular diesel. Some Morrisons have Premium Diesel and Regular.
