We were lowering the passenger front window which went all the way to the bottom, accompanied by a horrible clattering. That was it stuck down, any attempts to raise it just produced the rattling. Luckily it was in the middle of a heatwave.

Took the door card off and motor but can only lift the window up 2" to try to get to the clamps. There's a cable with a nipple visible loose inside the door by the locking button which is draped over a pulley (see photo, sorry about the socks).

Any suggestions?

If you unscrew and remove the motor, you may be able to pull the glass up manually.

So if I drill out all the pop rivets, leaving the lifter attached to the glass and then take the aluminium panel off, then attack the lifter and glass?

Only other thing that may be worth considering is that it's not hard to completely remove the door.

Unplug electrics at A-pillar, undo checkstrap and two 13mm nuts - one at each hinge - and you can carefully lift the door off.

That opens up the possibility of inverting the door to get help from gravity to move the glass.

An assistant is very useful to take some of the weight of the door during removal and especially re-mounting it.

Sons Mk1 did the same. Cable wrapped itself around motor etc. I removed motor and then rivets/door card and managed to get the tangle of cables out. I got an aftermarket window regualtor off ebay and fitted it. You need special rivets for attaching metal door card plus a heavy duty rivet gun. Careful not to snap the door release cable plastic clip etc when removing door card. I also found that by undoing bracket that stops door from opening too much you can get to the electrics in door pillar easier.

We have also got a stuck down window, with a similar story although mine is driver's side, on a superb MK3.

It's not moving even though we have removed enough door that we can now access the glass from the bottom.

I think I'm going to farm it out to a garage. Insufficient free time to DIY.
