Steering rack leak! Octy mk1 4x4 1.8t

Featured Replies

Hey! I’m in need of some knowledge from the wise people of this forum.

I have a big leak coming from the steering rack under my 4x4 1.8t.

I’ve found a reconditioned unit with the right part number 1J2422061AM, but it’s £400.

I was wondering if any other PNs are a direct fit, perhaps from a mk1 TT Quattro, 4wd golf or A3/S3?

Thank you in advance!

According to google AI the X at the end means remanufactured??

Ah thanks for that Alasdair.

I think I really need access to Etka to understand which PNs are appropriate / match the 1J2422061AM PN I have.

I looked up a 2000 plate on LLL parts and it had as one of the steering racks your part number. Had PR codes listed but I went with the part number as I dont know your car. When I clicked it it came up as superceded. Weird thing is if you type original part into search it comes up nothing found so reckon original is obsolete plus part number ending in BX is not available according to LLL

Is it the rack that is leaking or the pipes feeding it.
