1st gear issue

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a Octavia estate mk4 2020 2.0tdi. It's done 70000 miles and I'm having an issue with selecting 1st gear where it feels like its getting totally blocked and half the time it ends up in 3rd. The issue seems to come and go. When it does happen, I've now got used to just putting it into 2nd first then up to 1st. There is no grinding and the car drives and pulls fine apart from the gear issue.

I had my local garage have a look, but they said due to it not happening when they had it they couldn't find any issues. They did align the linkage cable, but its still having the same issue.

It does seem to be a bit random as it tends to happen for a few shifts then totally fine the next few. Engine can be cold or warm, but it does seem to only happen when the weather is hot.

I'm also finding that when it is in first the gear stick seems to move to almost neutral when I let it go. Is this normal?

Any ideas anyone? Thanks.

Check the gear selector plastic bit on top of gearbox isnt seizing and also the cast counter weight is secure and hasnt come loose.

Might be worth resetting cables again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-ATE-7PCFE
