Well, today has been an interesting day.

Collected my, new to me, Scout and when I got home, about 14 miles, someone knocked on my front door to tell me there was a wet patch under the front of the car.

Aaahhh. What the heck.

OIL!!

I cleaned and checked the dipstick and it was DRY!!

Called the garage and it is getting taken back first thing tomorrow.

Plus the Bolero panel has gone blank. Nothing at all. I'll do some digging.

Bugger, was the oil warning light showing on the drive home?

@cwt did you lift the bonnet and check that the oil filler cap was on? Had you checked the oil level and coolant level when collecting car and before leaving with it. Maybe just the drain plug not renewed or washer when serviced or plug cross threaded.

Nope. If it had appeared, I'd have dipped the clutch and killed the engine.

All sorted. When the garage changed the oil fitter, the seal hadn't seated properly. Were they just careless?

Yes but no I didn't check under the bonnet before I drove away. Should I need to?

It was the seal with the oil fitter that hadn't seated correctly. All sorted now, fingers crossed.

Nope, I refer you to my other to save typing them out again.

Here's hoping there was enough oil left in the sump to avoid any damage to the engine by the time you arrived home!

Sadly even with a brand new car which has supposedly had a PDI done by a trained person it is important to check levels at hand over then when home or next day to compare. Also tyre pressures because if they are set poorly or never set then that gives an idea of the dudes / dudettes being hopeless and not giving a damn.

The car was driven 15 miles back to my place and all seemed ok. I checked the oil and it was showing about and ¾ on the dipstick. I'm thinking that is ok.

I'll be keeping a closer eye on the oil levels than I used to. I do check the oil but not every day. I'll be doing it more often now.

Just important to know where when Stone Cold and no engine started and also where that is as per Skoda Oil Check, at normal operating temp after stopped a few minutes on the flat. Then you can always be sure enough oil in before a trip amd not needing to get oil while on one.
