Breaking into a 2000 Fabia comfort! How do I do it?

Featured Replies

OK so i've just managed to lock my wifes only car key in her 2000 Fabia SDI (Non-remote but with central locking). Obvioulsy I can put a brick through a window but I wondered if anyone knew of a less messy way of gaining access?

I have tried my golf key (unlikely but had to have a go). I wondered if I could force the lock with a screw driver and then just replce the handle/barrel... certianly less mess than a window and she could still use the car.

Any adsvise welcome

She's in the RAC and we will get a price from them but I can see me being really sad when the RAC guy bangs tgwice on the panel and it all pops open!

Actually I seem to remember they used to open cars on Vauxhall by using a "Crash" switch located in the front panel designed to un-lock all the doors in an accident.

I dont think it would be wise for anyone to post a sucessfull method of breaking into any car on a forum.

There is a crash signal on the Fabia that will unlock the doors if its fitted with CDL, trouble is it would also set the airbags off, and the vehicle would need to be moving for it to activate anyhow.

I got my window smashed and the RAC came out and replaced it for 65 , which is nt too bad..

Sorry I cant think of any other way

isnt the easiest way into a car with the minimal amount of damage

via the boot?

How you gonna break into a Fabia boot?

There aint a lock to get into.

Good point:D

I had a memory of my dad locking his keys in his vauxhall viva and breaking in via the boot

and on the same holiday my uncle albi doing the same with his car

Must be a forgetfull gene in the family

As Lumox said there aint no boot lock - You only bet is to smash a window and I d try the passenger one............

The only key lock is on the drivers door

And cover it with a sticky-backed paper first, so as to stop the glass shards sprinkling inside the car.

If it's not deadlocked, you could do a rear-quarter (smaller pane of glass to replace), and reach in to unlock it.

Or you could have a go at trying to unhook the door lock mechanism, but that could do some damage if you don't know what you're doing.

Rob.

I ve got a 2000 model and they are deadlocked -

Dont forget to place a plastic sheet on the seat to catch the falling glass before you smash it!!!!

I believe it's possible to lock it without deadlocking it though...well, it's possible on the Octavia...

Oh I see, very funny.

if its not dead locked you could lever the top of the door frame back with a piece of wood then with a piece of wire suitably bent pull the interior door handle to release the door , usually works on the Fords anyway

does yours have the cable to release the tailgate??? i seem to remember theres a little rubber grommet you can remove on the bottom of one of the sills, dont know for sure but you might be able to get to the cable from there.

just an idea!!!

So in the end I called the RAC and they came and did it with no damage - It was easier for them because my keys were in the ignition with the ignition turned on (Although th engine was not running) - basically i had a fault on my passenger side electric window and had been working on it when I closed the door and it was locked!

Anyway RAC guy said most times they break in using the electric windows. He basicaly prized the top back corner of the door open a crack using a plastic wedge and an inflatable rubber bag! Then used a bendable rod pushed through the gap to press the power window button an hey presto!

Normally he says they have to activate the ignition by doing somerthing under the car with the wiring but I dunno what cos he didnt have to on mine.

Anyway, I'm sorted now and thanks for your suggestions :)

Good result. :) I know a couple of people who managed to lock keys in their car while the engine was still running.... Was good fun seeing about 20 people around a car (both times were at shows / RR days) all puzzling and trying to get into them. Each time they did in the end though.

A mate did that, locked the keys inside with the motor running. Was wondering how to get back into it when a helpful passer by offered his assistance - and his bunch of master keys.

Turned out to be an ex-pro, and kept the keys for "emergencies"....

Hewesy

Some valeters (you know the typr - disused petrol station) managed to lock my keys in the car in the ignition... the AA took a matter of seconds with a wedge and a piece of bent wire... lol.

:)

you can activate the ignition by taking the reverse light switch off of the gearbox, then connecting one wire to the battery via the alternator and the other wire on the earth(chassis).

I know how to get into an old Audi Coupe with one of those plastic straps that come wrapped around boxes. Only because I had to do it a few times when I did silly things with the locks on my Audi!
