TAKATA Airbags fitted to Skodas can explode like a granade

Featured Replies

I have just stumbled across a report about TAKATA Airbags which have been fitted to many Skodas.

When the airbag is triggered they become lethal bombs.

Takata does not exist any more but they have developed a cheaper airbag in 2004 and it has been fitted by many manufacturers until 2018.

They have used Ammoniumnitrate tablets as the driver for the airbag when it deploys. Ammoniumnitrate will degrade over time and the tablet will become a dusty substance and this will not produce gas in a controlled fashion but explode ripping everything around it apart and shoot metal shrapnel towards the driver and passenger and killing them.

Recalls have happened but many manufacturers have dragged their feet - VAG being among them.

I have just checked my old car - an SII L&K - which I sold a couple of years ago and this DOES have a Takata airbag and it has NOT been recalled.

I am not sure if I put this thread into the appropriate section. Maybe moderators can swap it.

This has been floating around for a little while, We had a 2007 Polo which was recalled in August/September and had a replacement airbag
