Which turbo, help ???

Featured Replies

Hi all, i've just had a 1.9 conversion done to my Octy VRS. And I had a GT3012 fitted to the car......didn't work!! It causes to much back pressure!! I had a IHIvf28 before, that pushed out 341bhp. And now at 1.6 bar, it has 328bhp:confused: . Not good, and not very happy! The engine has been rebuilt top to bottom, with je pistons, forged rods with arp bolts, inconel/nitrided valves and a few more things!!And can easily handle 450/500bhp. I just don't know whats a good turbo to put on the engine. I've had a idea of a TD06 20g, but have you guys got any ideas of a good turbo that can handle that sort of power. And, that would work!!!!!

Who done all the work??

jbs has an octy with over 400hp maybe give them a call

Jabbasport did all the work, the car is still there. Eddy's turbo look good, I will have to mention that to Micheal at Jabba. Does anyone know what sort of power Eddy's is running ?

I don't think Eddys has been rolling roaded yet but I believe its presently over 400 bhp. JBS got 424bhp out of a GT28 so the GT30 should be well on the good side of that!!

Dont fall into the old trap, big BHP but loads of lag, Big BHP dosent neccesarily make for a quick car.

I dont intend to add anything as this could easily turn into a slagging bragging thread, I trust it wont.

having gone this far with Jabba I would let them try & resolve it before it all gets to public. Ive always found them very knowledgable & fair. If you take it somewhere else & things break both willl blame the other & the only one to loose out is you.

Not enirely sure but I know Jabba have sorted a MK2 Golf with a 1.8T 20V with the 1.9 conversion and, I believe, it used to run 420bhp....not sure which turbo is has....possibly VF34.....but is definatley kicked Tiff Needell's ar$e in a 911 at an Autocar track day a couple of years back.

Michael has got a BMFO a turbo...was going to be for a track day special....needs at least 5k on the clock before it gets going though....it's huge.:D

Good advice Stuart:thumbup: I don't intend to take my car anywhere else, I trust Jabba!! I've used them for my last 5 cars, I just wondered what turbo other people were using. And a little advice!! I put a Gt3012 on my car, and it caused to much back pressure, it was very laggy, and does not work very well on a 20vt engine. I've been recommended a turbo to put on there, a TD06 20g. What other turbo's are people using?? What turbo are you using Stu?

Glad you still have 100% faith in Jabba. IMO you wont go wrong !

Ive got Jabbas IHI kit which gives me a mere 350 bhp but with 4WD thats more than enough to give a quick road car with little Turbo lag. Believe it or not Im not sure which IHI turbo, Its on the Invoice somewhere, I just went with Jabbas recomendation having driven other cars they had converted & was suitably impressed :) :) :) :)

Re back pressure Im assuming youve got a stonking big Exhaust & a scant cat !!!

Stuart

I'm not sure what you mean with the back pressure issue, can you elaborate?

Bill's old Mk4 Golf was built by Jabba, that was a 1.9 but not sure which turbo and even on the standard SMIC was making around 400bhp.

What kind of manifold are you running? JBS have found that to run high boost on a big turbo then an equal length manifold is pretty much essential. I'm not familiar with the differences between the various garret turbos but mine is a modified GT3071R-WG as far as I know.

Tut, tut;) .....it's a VF34. I find the driveability is much better than the K03S and with the 1.9 conversion you should have chods more torque. Also the conversion makes the engine very sweet...apparently.

Will echo what Stu has said....Jabba will sort you no worries.

I agree with that, the small capacity increase makes for a very nice improvement.

Give Grant a ring at AET Turbochargers 01924894171. He will give you advice a plenty. I'd speak to Mike first, as the Jabba manifold is designed for the IHI and is a bit too close to the block to get a good sized Garrett in there You'll struggle getting over 400 with the IHI, I don't know many who've managed it. Awesome mid range turbo though.

341 are you the mentalist who did the Octy roof chop? Any photos?
