another dashboard lamp : (

Featured Replies

I am not having much joy with the 2nd hand Fabia that I got. First it was the EPC lamp and brake lights (now fixed) but now another lamp on the dashboard has lit up.

Not sure what it is called in English as I only have a Swedish manual, but I have attached a picture (called 'Elektronisk motorstyrning' in Swedish) Oh, I am a Brit, so I do not speak much Swedish, so I am not sure what it may be from the manual...

I have a Fabia (2001, 1.4 101hp) still under warrentee for 2 more weeks....

Can anyone tell me what this lamp means, or what it could be that is wrong? The car seems to drive ok and the brake lights still work : )

It's a fault in the engine electronics or exhaust system. Probably just a faulty sensor. Just try to get yourself booked in before your 2 weeks are up.

I think it's commonly referred to as the Check Engine Light or CEL.

Book her in and ask for them to take a look.

Engine Management light. Needs checking ASAP.

thanks for feedback..

CEL : now I know the English term : )

will arrange for an inspection, but it probably going to have to be the VW / Seat garage that I took her to last time as opposed to a Skoda garage...

does anyone have an online or PDF copy on the manual in English that I can have?

Hello!

I had the same expirience with EPC error. I changed a brake switch and then after six mounths chaged it again and at the end must changed car computer (cca. 600 euros).

If you still have warrentee you should check car computer again with people on your service.

Bye,

I got in touch with the people that I bought the car from (a re-seller) and they are claiming that their warrentee only covers items that could make a car fail an MOT. They are saying that this fault would not make a car fail an MOT and that it is therefore not covered by them... Any comments on this?

Oh, does anyone also have a copy of the Fabia manual in English as, perhaps a PDF etc.

You need to get the fault codes read ideally to find out why the CEL is on. While the presence of the CEL on the dashboard is not an MOT fail, the cause of the CEL coming on may be. It can be triggered by things like failed sensors which could cause the car to fail an MOT....

Best also to check the wording of your warranty to see where you stand and what is covered. Some warranties that are supplied with the cars are not worth the paper they are written - it just seems to be a way of satisfying the law that used cars must be sold on with 3 months of warranty....

don't you mean Czech Engine Light?

haha. well, that was my joke for the day.. : ) no offence : ) I will get a booking tomorrow for the VW/Seat garage so they can look. If it is something that will fail a MOT then it is covered by the warentee... Lets hope it is covered....

so now, on the day that I took the Fabia to the garage, the CEL light goes out, and the mechanic informed me that he cannot plug his analysis tool (VAG ?) into the car as it would not show any errors if the 'light' was not lit up. This is what he also said:

1. it could be low on battery (i use the car about every 3 days, so it is not in constant use, but still, i think the battery is ok)

2. He told me to use 98 petrol as oppossed to 95 petrol (in UK this might be called Super Unleaded or something as opposed to Normal Unleaded : of course, this is more expensive and I would prefer to use 95/Normal...)

I took it for an hour drive in town and country roads and the CEL light remained off and the car was still driving fine.

It was also the case with the EPC lamp that I PREVIOUSLY had a problem with, where it would 'occassionally' light up, and the brake lights would 'occasionally' fail, and not always...

hmm..

Mine comes on and then goes off when I turn on the ignition, is this normal or should I be worried.

mine stayed on for a long time for 2 whole days... It goes off now completely and the garage say they cannot look at it : ((
