which engine is best/reliable in the fabia ?

Featured Replies

my 2000 1.4 16v is in the garage again looking at the egv (is that right).

if i do get rid of the fabia which engine is the best/most reliable ?

i'm sure the vrs is great but too expensive for me !!

james

ps what other cars with smallish engines that are reliable ??

thanks

The lower powered TDi engines in the Fabia are apparently very good. However, you cant go wrong with a Vauxhall 1.2 16V either.

WHat are you looking for in a car?

Small and japanese/korean if you want reliability.

Hyundai do 5yr warranty and last I heard had never had a Getz break down (physically stop, not warranty faults). I'm not aware of another manufacturer that can claim that.

5 door,abs,air con,p/s.i've never been a fan of vauxhalls.

i live 2 mins from an hyundai dealer.

I ve heard good things about the MItsubishi Colt

Yeah, PD100 in the long run might be the most reliable if looked after. Would expect one to easily go past 250k without needing a rebuild or anything replaced worse than a clutch maybe. :)

Hmm - Whats a PD100

The 100bhp version of the 1.9 PD TDI engine :D

Chris

2.0 l surly? !!!!

250k!!!

250,000 well looked after - no probs. TDIs in the US do this quite easily as they do loads more mileage. Regular oil / filter changes and respectful driving = no probs at all. I briefly had a 1.9 110 TDI Octavia on a W plate with 170k on and it drove perfectly fine.

I wouldn't expect a 2 litre to go much past 100k. :P :P It seems they all get abused too much anyway.

Have a look at some of the mileages racked up by Audi 80s with the 2.0E engine in it... :)

That said, the 2.0 is notorious for developing a thirst for oil.

I was only saying that after reading much 2.0 litre abuse threads recently. ;):D

Really, all engines should go to 200k with little worry and lots of care, I would just expect a TDI to go on 50% more. Cast iron block, etc. :)

250k!!!

My mates Honda Legend has 220K and has only had a new gearbox done to it.Good old Honda`s!

If you fancy a new Mitsubishi Colt , get down to your Mitsi dealer , they come with 1 yr free insurance and 3 yrs free servicing at the mo i think , plus the ususal 3 yr warranty and breakdown cover (pan european) , the 1.1 3 cly has 75 brake horse and sounds like a little 911 after 3000 rpm!

AFAIK' date=' it's not classed as a "consumable" and so should have a 1 year warranty on the part. If it's actually failed and is less than 1 year old I'd be presenting them with the previous receipt and a few questions!

Rob.[/quote']

the egr warrenty ended on the 4th August,i didn't have to pay for any work today.because it was replaced only a few weeks after i bought the car under warrenty it was replaced for free but i didn't get a receipt but i have seen the paper work.

do i have rights to get it replaced free (i told the garage well over a week ago when i booked the car in and they tested the vag-com) ?

Sorry...just re-read your post and noticed they didn't replace the valve, just cleaned it... :o

If the valve was just dirty then there probably isn't much you could do to claim it was faulty, so I doubt you'd be able to get a replacement on the back of this. If you bought the car through the Skoda Used Approved scheme then you should get a year's warranty on the car anyway, so any problems within the next year should be covered by this...

guess what...24 hours after picking my car up the engine warning light came on :thumbdwn:

back to the garage on Saturday

The most reliabe for sure will be the SDI.

The TDI PD100 and the MPI 8v will be next. Both are known to go 300.000 - 500.000km. Especialy the MPI 8v are very common on taxis in the Czeck republic.

The MPI 8v is on the early models of the Fabias? If so why are there dozens of problems relating to power steering / seals / and more relating to these.

I own one and was under the impression that this was the least reliable as Skoda built this and not VW.

Am I wrong - Arent VW engines more robust?

Thanks

I would say the MPI is more robust, as it is based on e simpler more mechanical design - eg les electronics to go wrong... besides, I think I read something about the engine having been modified by Audi before VW / Skoda put it in the Fabia... ?

My 51 reg PD100 has now done 48K and the only oil that's gone into it has been when I have it serviced - not used a drop.
