Anything i've missed?

Hi mate

Im in a similar predicament but have decided to go this route

Upgraded recirc valve DV30 just fitted

next is CAI

then exhaust and sports cat

then remap and FMIC

that should do but there is always

big turbo upgrade, nitrous and various other ways to extract more power, but you start talking huge amounts of money

CAI or Panel (i went green panel)

TIP

Zaust

FMIC

remap

DV if you want to of if it recommended like some do

Of course thats all done after your cam belt and water pump change aint it ;) crap i know as my last service was half a full miltek system but thats life

Suspension id go for

S3 lower strut

R32 ARB

Brakes

Super 4.1 fluid

DS52000 pads job done

Good so far, keep 'em coming...

.

Of course there is also the burning question of.... Blue flame, Milltec, other...etc...

.

I just went for a remap plus Bailey DV, then added Jabba's variable boost controller later. Amazing value and performance for the money. :D

You'll want the full turbo back exhaust system including the cat.

100cel although most Millteks come with the 200cel.....100cel should be fine.....mine has an IHI turbo, 3'' dp and 100cel and went through the MOT emissions test no problem.

Which CAI are you thinking of and why? If you're just after sound then fine but beaware CAI will give minimal increase and some may even reduce power.

DV - latest OEM DV are fairly good now and respond quicker than piston type aftermarket products. Check out the Forge Eliminator which is a diaphragm type..as per OEM...but better quality.

An alternative to the FMIC is a intercooler spray.....sprays water from washer bottle onto intercooler....works well. Or perhaps water injection e.g Aquamist.

If you want to eventually go big turbo route...forget the turbo back exhaust system and get a cat back...purely for sound...as big turbo will generally require a 3'' dp and cat. Also you wouldn't be able to reuse the TIP and there may be some connection issues with the CAI depending on the size of MAF used.

I'd start with the suspension if I were you, uprate the pads when replacements are required.

Exhaust next. The CAI sounds good & it's cheap enough.

TIP is a good mod but slightly more expensive.

FMIC is 600 odd nuts, I'm told it makes a differance, I've got one & I'm not convinced it's worth the money!

You've done the right thing by asking  It's up to the bank balance what avenue you take, good luck.

As far as the zorst is concerned i will be going for a full (2.5" downpipe) system and sports cat anyway, was more interested in quality/price. Also does the centre silencer make much difference to power or is it just a noise thing?

.

I am thinking along the lines of Jabba's style of CAI but with green cotton filter (from an aesthetics viewpoint) as i'm just not sure i trust having the filter down in the headlight area... each to their own i suppose.

.

already have a Bailey's DV30.

.

Big turbo is not an option for me, i just want a bit more oomph (technical term) and will prob' be looking at a mk2 octy vRS in a few years time.

.

Having had the car for a few months now and fitted my boost gauge i can now (ALMOST certainly) say that on hotter day's the boost is cut by 2-3 psi and the car has less pull which must be related in part to charge temp's? Hence the possible FMIC route.

.

Ah well, best start saving..........:(

:) what did you pick to do first mate and what do all the abbrevations mean im new to this tuning job

TIP is a 'turbo inlet pipe' after market ones from tuners are larger with better flow.

FMIC is a 'front mount intercooler' larger and more efficient than the teeny-weeny-tucked-down-one-side standard one.

CAI is a 'cold air indiction' kit usually in the form of a cone filter with a cold air feed tube from the front of the car ar a filter on the end of a long inlet tract (i.e. filter near the front of the car.

I will probably go for the remap first as i have now found somewhere that will 'tweak' the remap charging accordingly and not have me shell out for another full remap. That way i can add exhaust etc later.

Brakes and suspension will get done when they need replacing unless i find i NEED:eek: them due to performance.

care to elaborate? Is this a change between 1.8T and 2.0TFSI ? Or will a DV from, for example, a late Leon Cupra R be of the quicker responding variety ?

Always start tuning with the brake upgrade. It's too late to find out that you need it when you've just cooked them and are catching a polis motor at a rate of knots!

Jabba's CAI is in exactly the same place are the OEM airbox so the filter is well out of the way of any potential water ingress.

The filter is by JR and is very lightly oiled....mine make s nice induction noise and the DV can be heard even on the motorway...ask Nick (ncarring) about mine "psth"ing at 80mph.

My Jetex has a centre box and a huge rear box...probably why it's fairly quiet in comparison.

DaveU had a Powerflow cat back with a small rear box...was louder than my set-up now.

Removing the cat also makes a big difference in sound.

You will most notice a FMIC in hot weather....boost will be held much better....also you can have the car mapped to take the FMIC into consideration and give more boost.

Like said earlier it's worht having a look at the SMIC water spray or water injection...particularly if you're not going big turbo route...Jon used a SMIC spray and found it very effective on track days. They cost approx40-50% of a FMIC.

From your list I'd do brakes and suspension first as they will make the most noticable difference to the cars performance as they WILL make it quicker. Then go for exhaust/CAI, not much performance gain but it will sound faster.
