Unhappy Civic Type R owner.

Featured Replies

One of the guys at work has recently aquired a used Civic Type R - and very nice it is too.

This morning I was in the Octavia and I saw him coming up behind as we came to a long straight. He pulled out and floored it, so I thought I'd follow suit.

We must have been well into 3 figures before I braked to let him in - I shant pretend I could have beaten him if the road was longer or if any corners came along but the point is.......

He's now one very miffed Civic owner because he thinks he nearly got beaten by a 1300kg Skoda with 150 bhp

I hear these VTECs have snail like pace outside the VTEC zone - maybe he wasn't keeping it on the boil. ;) He should have taken you like a king :D

Obviously' date=' your supercar is in the garage.

We must have been well into 3 figures before I braked to let him in..

So you're saying you were ahead of him and were consistently ahead of him, with 1300+kgs and 150bhp, versing 1,100+kgs at 200bhp? Okay...so a car that can floor a 0-60 in about 6.5 seconds vs. your 8 seconds was struggling to get past you...

.. I shant pretend I could have beaten him if the road was longer or if any corners came along but the point is.......

...yet you admit defeat before you can even have the chance to prove it?

So you say you beat him, but you wouldn't be able to in the longer run.

What the hell makes you think your shopping cart which can carry 10 kids can out-accelerate a Honda Civic Type-R?

Not taking anything away from you but I'd recommend him to check the oil level is bang on full. Anything less and performance drops. I found this a bit of a problem when I owned and as they tend to use a bit of oil I made a habit of checking everytime I refueled.

I imagine he wasn't amused though, bet it was well funny for you!

Phil's Octavia has ITRO 220bhp.

Phil's Octavia has ITRO 220bhp.

220bhp, by gosh that's interesting.

So, was there anything 'in it' while you were pulling out from him?

I've played with Civic Type R's, on the road and on track,in both my old Octy and my current one.

My old one was much quicker, even than a breathed on one, my current one struggles a bit, especially if the R driver is trying. See one most mornings on the way to work and we have developed a healthy respect for each other as there is not a lot in it until swe get to silly speeds. On the track I am a little quicker than one but not by the margin of my old one.

Mil. Please learn to read.

I did not say I beat him. He pulled up on me and would have overtaken the Octavia even if I haddnt' braked for the approaching corner.

The point of the thread was to share my ammusment at the expense of the poor Civic owner who is unaware of my cars' actual power. He now thinks his car is slow because it cant beat a big heavy family estate car.

I think the one I play with may have twigged that mine isn't your usual run of the mill SDI :D

I had a chat with one of the owners of the one I played with in my old one - he too was most bemused :D

ur missing the point dude.. When they make fun or mock something.. its called british humour.. when you or I do that.. its called cultural and language issues and we dont understand language ;) ;)

You know, when I think of this now, I just realized you and I tend to mess up threads quite easily.

On topic please gentlemen.....

This thread is about hairdresser Goochie obtaining somthing like a queen or somesuch other monarchist statement. ;)

So "Gervais", are you still thinking of removing the remap or are you going to keep it on?

They must be getting "unpopular" these Type R's

I am in Sunderland working this week and just opposite is a Honda dealer, there are 8 used Type R's on the forcourt, oh and a couple of S2000's, but they won't hang around long before being sold.

My Brother in Law has a type R and he drove me over to the airport last week and picked me up, handled great, but reminded me of riding my old RD 350 two stroke ........... bog .......bog..........bog.........build .....build.......... waaaaaaaahhhhhh!:D

No need for it to bog down, he's just not driving it right.

:iagree:

When I had my ITR I just drove it differently when required. Think of an imaginary 0rpm where 4krpm is and you couldnt really go wrong.

Yep, I know Eddy, it felt like it was "bogging" because of there being little torque available....... and he drives like he is driving miss daisy

80% of the torque is availble from around 1500rpm IIRC (although that's 80% of not a lot).

Phil - I forgot to ask in my original post, did you find the ITR was as fussy over the oil level and did it need regular top ups?

In the 6-8 months I had it I never topped the oil up. It was serviced at a Honda dealer by the previous owner prior to selling it to me and I never had it serviced - so I dont know

I actually took my CTR back to the dealer due to the performance drop and was informed it was caused by the drop in oil level (which they topped up FOC), I didn't own it long enough for it to require a service (I got rid just before it was due a service and new tyres!), but regularly had to top up the oil. It's possible though it was using more due to the low mileage.

Mines just turned 44k miles and uses roughly 1litre per 8k miles, although it can be a bit random...

Does the oil level affect performance, as has been suggested?

Yes, if the oil level is low it won't switch the cam over at 5900revs, it will go right round to the red line but will stay on the 'normal cam'... the same goes if its not fully upto temperature. ;)

I suppose I can understand that as IIRC the cam change mechanism is powered by oil pressure....

Does the Honda VTEC also stay on normal cam if the oil temp is cool?
