have just put my motor through its NCT...thats the same as an MOT in the uk.Now im no mechanic but surely it should take longer than ten minutes to do !!!?.....How is long is an MOT test in the UK?....longer than ten minutes?!!

kit:)

On my old car, it took 45 minutes/1 hour.

10 mins sounds short, but they are fairly quick at doing them once the car gets to the first stage.

It passed so why worry ?????

Exactly, your car obviously flew through the tests. Colm did you have an issue with the ride height when yours was nct'ed?

mines lowered and had no probs with it:).....was just wandering if a good and through inspection could be done in ten minutes!!......looked on www.ncts.ie for what they had to check and thought it would take half hour minimum!!.....but on a good note, none of the staff there could believe it was a skoda!!! they were all pointing and looking at me giving thumbs up!! :)

Depends where you go in the UK. Approved garages can do it in 1/2 hour in England/Scotland & Wales but in N.I. where it's government test centre based it can be up to an hour and it's a lot more stringent than anywhere else hence the absence of older cars on the roads here. Many perfectly healthy diesel and older performance cars fail on emissions and there's now a tendancy for drivers to nip over to Scotland for their MOT's. There's also a big kickup at the moment where the test centres are having to cough up for damage to engines as the emissions test requires diesel engines to be run at full throttle for several seconds.

with the new computerized mot system each mot tester has to log in. and a single tester can only do a certain number of tests per day because the computer wont let you do more. what some of the garages fo is have two peoples names logged in so they can push more tests through in a day

It was close to touching the front bumper but there was enough room ;) , I posted here before what the clearance required is/was.

Is it coming to that time Dave ?
