Fuel cap flap

Featured Replies

While in France I refuelled with diesel - 46 litres - talk about running on empty!!

However, the fuel fap refused to clip in & on my return, Saunders Abbott,Croydon could not solve it immediately stating that they needed to fit a new cable - 1 week's delay.

Is this a recurring problem? They seemed to think that it was.

Any other views as to what's happening - or rather why it is not closing.

Thanks

Michael

Been mentioned on here before I think.

Pull the carpet back in the boot and you'll see the outer cable for the release mecahnism. It will have become disconnected at the fuel flap end. Push it back together and don't pull the handle so hard next time.

I don't think it requires a new cable though, just a clip on the end of it!

Shouldn't require any new parts it just goes back in.

Unless it's broken the only reason I could see for a new cable is a modified one.

mine went a few weeks ago. took the stealer about 20 mins to fix it.

Ive had a lot of dealings with this dealer and have always found them to be honest. If they says it needs a new cable then it does. The wifes did this and then did the clip trick for a free in a few mins. So I guessing they tried that and hence found the cable was gone.

To give an idea how good a dealer this one is, I got an auto electrician to look at the wiring fault. He went to the dealer and they TOLD him how to fix it and were the problem was. Now thats service.

Thanks for that update. I'm booked in next week & perhaps there will be a cable modification. It's only 6 weeks from new so it should be done under the warranty. No real beef against the garage, my wife bought her Felicia there.

Thanks

Michael.

Keep an idea out for us Micheal in and round South Croydon / Purley / Croydon. The swmbo drives an fabia estate (orange/red) LV52...... and mines a silver hatch KE51...... usually with L plates on! Give us a wave.......

Hello,

I have heard that this problem is quite common and is mostly due to for example filling up the car with a filler on the right with a pump on the left which presses onto a catch and releases something (not very technical I know!). Could be caused by other things too though - heard also its a bugger of a job because the cable has to be fed back through and reattached.

Mike

mine went back to dealer to fix under warranty. All done very quickly with no fuss at all. v easy job.
