Do you notice how much presence your car has

Featured Replies

We have a couple of Octys & a Superb, my Octy is lowered, debadged & knocks out circa 350 bhp so its quick but Im constantly frustrated in traffic even at reosnable speeds when people wont pull over.

Ive noticed with the Superb that people tend to get out of the way, it must be something to do with the cars appearance in the drivers mirror. It must have real presence on the road

Have any other Superb owners noticed this ??

Stuart

never had any probs in my octy. paint yours red

Must admit it does seem to work that way ....even had a couple of people pull over into a layby ....let me pass ...and then pull out again .....no idea why

I have had people move out of the outside lane for me, and then look at me as i pass. Strange, I reckon its that massive front grille which scares them, They might think they are going to get swallowed up!

In my experience, they see a Skoda badge and refuse to be overtaken!!!

I would agree with that. Most people see it as an insult to be passed by a Skoda. Luckily for us, we pass most of them most of the time, they'll give up eventually.

Trounced a Merc driver the other day..talk about upset. Looked like a right ponce in his 2 tone CLK convertible...moral of the story..BUY A SKODA MATE

I noticed the following (ok it's about a Furby vRS):

stock - no-one moves over:confused: .

Painted grille surround - many move over.:)

lowered with eibachs as well - they move over all right! or they act nervous-like and try to move over pretty soon enough.:D

Cheers:thumbup:

Well, Recently ive been driving my dads seicento schumacher, and I never feel intimidated in it, or have any issues with people moving over. Maybe its how you dirve it? When i drive my moms octavia (2), i am very careful, cos i know she'd kill me if anything happened to it, and id say people take more liberties than when im driving the seicento... Also, the fact that the seicento can embaress a lot of cars in 1st and 2nd gears changes the way other motorists treat you....

No offence intended, but the drivers who move over probably think a big skoda will be an unmarked police car and the ones who don't move probably think its a taxi.;)

if i'm making decent progress on the motorway then people tend to get out of my way. i put it down to a big white octavia estate looking like a cop car :)

There is another reason - when it's a smaller car it looks further away in your mirrors, if it's a (particularly in the width direction) larger car then it looks much closer much sooner as it fills up the view in the mirror(s) more quickly.

There is a difference in how you drive it, and I've also found that having the xenons on makes my life MUCH easier. Not sure if it's because those who I'm awaiting sideways movement from think I'm a police officer but it just seems to work LOL.

I'm sure a lot of Volvo owners get sympathetic movement due to the 'copper effect'.

Either way I'm gonna go backroading today to pick up SWMBO in a bit, which I'll enjoy much more than motorway chasing at license-threatening speeds :o

Sounds about spot on to me!!

I agree with Daiking and Baker21 here, and with mine being black i do get a few looks as i pass, especially If i am wearing a white shirt and black tie.

I am not a copper... honest.

my car has no presence whatsoever except for the few seconds when the person in front realises that they have been overtaken by a Skoda. Then my car is forgotten again bacause i've overtaken another car and they cant see me anymore. But hey i'm happy with that. I do find that people do not want me to pass them and will do some really stupid things to stop me like indicating right as I pass them. VW and Audi drivers are the worst.

I agree Stuart.

As the above has been mentioned, if it's a bit packed up I struggle to convince the 1.0 l car in front that given the chance I would be past and you could move back out then...will only take be 10 secs to pass...

However if I've got a head of steam up and lights on I find people do move, more so if they have not seen me so I alert them to my presence...flick on flick of flick on flick off till they see me. Don't do it often, but more frequently than 3 years ago.

Had a jag pushing me last night, so let him past to do the hard work then pushed him for a laugh, stopped laughing when I missed the services and the fuel light came on, 10miles it reckoned...I need a bigger turbo ;)

Next moring after limping in on fumes I put 50 litres in the tank.

I've found though that since it' not clean it's not got any force...I think the million or so midge on the front are begining to take there toll.

Dual carriage ways are by far the worse for people falling asleep in the lanes and sticking to it or like sheep going right to passa bus thats like a mile away going up a hill.

I've had a couple of interesting moments in the last few weeks as my milage has ramped up, from a learner in school car pulling out onto an nsl and then proceeding to turn right, but not using he filter box to do it...

Somebody pulling into my path in the m-way doing about 40, I was doing a little more and thank god for the midge bumper, I swear it was half a second from a crash.

And joing where a van was making it hard for me to join; were all doing like 5 mph mate sod off...still I enjoyed boxing him in for a few minutes once we were rolling again, so I got my psuedo important revenge...sorry to the next chap he encounterd :)

I miss my vw van, that had good presence.

I think people have forgotten about the traffic on the right having right of way; or have I got that the wrong way around ;)

The Octys due a respray in the next few months, I might just try a brighter colour, who knows

You're right to a certain extent. On the motorway, we've noticed lots of cars slow down, as though they're worried it's an unmarked car. I don't know if some of it is down to the projector headlights. The fact that our local force had a silver Superb might also contribute to that as well. (Anybody seen any other 'job' Superbs?)

I fancy having a bit of a chuckle next time I'm wearing a white short-sleeved shirt: Get the high-vis vest out the boot, driving at exactly 70 on the motorway and seeing what people do.......:D

The Superb does have a certain road presence though. I was looking at it down the street we were parked in today, thinking it looked quite distinctive, even a little bit mean. Grrrr!

I had that this morning - think he thought I was Police. I have seen one unmarked Superb police car (silver) - that was a 2.8V6.

People get over more for my Superb and my old Saab 9-5, but no-one moves over when I'm in the other halfs Seat Leon. Bit frustrating sometimes as the Superb's not as quick as people think.

I use the M11 every day and i find people slowing down and moving out of my way very reguarly.

I know there is a Silver Superb 2.8V6 on the M11 along with a Cayenne Red Octy Estate.

Thats what i was about to say, I pull into the local ****/rudeboy hang out every now and then because its funny to see them **** themselves! I see a silver unmarked octavia very often round here.
