2.0 TDi 4x4 - BIG NEWS

New Octavia Estate 2.0 TDI PD 140bhp 4x4 Pricing and Specification

Pricing is as follows

Great news! But unless the price is rising generally for the updated model, I thought it would be around

 How much! Hold on while I pick myself up off the floor.

My key question: is DSG available?

My key question: is DSG available?

Steve

IIRC DSG isn't available on the 1.9 4x4 so I doubt it will be available on the 2.0. My thinking is that 4x4 Golfs are sold on their sporting pretentions so it gets the DSG but Skoda 4x4's are sold more on their flexibility for a bit of off road use so it doesn't. The DSG isn't anywhere near as flexibile as the manual for off road use, it can overheat in certain circumstances, and getting grip when towing etc isn't as easy either.

If it is available i'm sure you are looking at £19.5k. I think the OctyII is great and all but that's a kick in **** off 20 grand once you add side airbags! I'm assuming the all essential ESP is standard.

Great news

18.5 to 20K does seem like a lot but hopefully the dealers will be open to negotiation ;)

Here's my big news from Skoda UK obtained today (actually it was last week but I only checked my Hotmail today :o ). This totally contradicts what I've seen on this thread and elsewhere in the forum and supposedly came from the horses mouth. Names have been changed to protect the innocent :)

Dear Mr Stone,

Thank you for your email.

Currently, SkodaAuto have no plans to introduce a 2.0 TDi model to the Octavia 4x4 range.

Thank you for showing an interest in the Skoda marque.

Yours sincerely

Skoda UK Marketing Person

My original message was fairly explicit so no room for confusion:

>Dear Skoda

>Please could you tell me when the 2.0 TDi 4x4 estate will be available

>in the UK. I have considered the 1.9 TDi 4x4 estate but I find it

>underpowered.

>Regards

>Mr Stone

So, some options:

Ant has been on the magic mushrooms and his new 2.0 TDi 4x4 is really a 1.9 TDi 4x4 with a 2.0 TDi badge glued on and a hefty salesmans bonus added (only kidding!!!).

These things are on some sort of restricted and un-official release to certain dealers. Half of Skoda UK knows about them, the other half doesn't.

Skoda UK are trying to pull a really fast one and deny all knowledge of said car until some more 1.9 Tdi 4x4 stock is shifted.

The marketing person hasn't got a clue what they're talking about and pushed out any old crap to shut me up.

PM me for the original message incl. the Skoda bod's contact details if anyone wants some clarification.

Okay Ants, come clean!!! Were you just winding us up?

As I know where he works, I doubt it is a wind up.

Ants,

I'd rather have that than the RS TDI - I think! Let me know when it's in and I'll come and have (a go in) one :D

Is a toss up isn't it PD170, which may or may not be better than the PD140 or a PD140 4x4. Still think they should just do a PD170 4x4 and be done with it :)

Doubt they will, looking at the VW site you can have a Passat with the 170 TDI and DSG or the 140 TDI and 4 motion here

Darren

i thought diesels where the future? those stats suggest that the new 4x4 is slower than the mk1 1.8T 4x4 from 5 years ago :) the old one may have had a 10bhp advantage but how much more torque does the PD140 have?

Oi Bengie No - stop trolling :P

Old apple = 1.8T 4x4

New orange = 2.0 TDi 4x4

Do trolls eat fruit?!

if your post made any sense i would probably come up with a witty retort but all i can muster so far is

and for your information i'm trolling i am merely commenting on the provided statistics of the supposed new car and the fact that everyone makes so much noise about diesels being oh so good performance wise yet they are obviously still atleast 5 years behind :)

I know bengie :)

THe apple orange thing is saying is probably making the point you are comparing a 1.8T in a much lighter MK I against a 2.0TDI PD140 in a newer and heavier Octy II.

I think you are wring about performance, but it just depends on what sort of performance you are after. Derv and Petrol both win out, just in different areas :)

Correct

The real test is a comparison of what diesels could do 8 years ago vs. petrol engines of the same age as opposed to what current diesel engines can do vs current petrol engines. They may not be better just yet but the gap has narrowed.

From What Car? and BuyaCar. Both 2WD Elegance's

Octavia 2.0 FSi Estate Manual

148BHP/5100rpm

0-60mph 9.4 secs

148 lb/ft @ 3500 rpm

Octavia 2.0 TDi Estate Manual

140BHP/4000rpm

0-60mph 9.6 secs

236 lb/ft @ 1750 rpm

Probably not very accurate but right ball park and I can't see much difference if 0-60 is anything to go by. They will feel very different to drive because of where the torque is available in the rpm range.

I know which one I would rather tow a trailer with whilst overtaking a tractor.

that isn't a fair example though is it, compare the TFSI to the PD140 and the FSI to the SDI even if the petrol is still quicker :D

Oh come on, the TFSi has been tuned up to ~200 BHP vs 140 for the 2.0 diesel and the SDi engine isn't in the current Octavia line up so you're not exactly being fair either ;)

I guess the closest will be a comparison of the TFsi and TDI VRs's both at around 170-200BHP and both with blowers but I don't have the data on the diesel to hand.

I'd guess the official 0-62 time for the diesel will be in the 8.2 - 8.4 range.

I'd guess the official 0-62 time for the diesel will be in the 8.2 - 8.4 range.

Vs ~7.5 for the TFSi? Yes the TDi is slower but it's also giving away 30BHP so that's not suprising.

Anyway, back to the thread topic. Skoda UK definitely, officially saying UK dealers are selling 2.0TDi 4x4 Octavias or not? Someone on here must know but they're not saying

I know and I did say! but for some reason you won't believe me!!!!

Skoda UK must be reading this and chuckling to themselves.

It's going to come, it's on the skoda system.

Your right goochie, skoda UK must be having a laugh at this thread. Still I'm going to try a VRs, and then probably go buy an A3 S-line quatro with the PD170 cause i want 4 wheel drive on something with that much power :P
