Out with the old and in with the new!

Featured Replies

Not sure where to place this thread, so please forgive me if it's in the wrong place.

Well, after the hassle with Saltdean closing down, Sparshatts ressurected the deal I had with Saltdean and, all being well, I will be picking up my new Octavia 1.6 FSI Elegance hatchback this Friday.

I will be driving down to Fareham in my Fabia estate which Sparshatts are taking as part exchange, but when I have had a new car before, it has been delivered to my home address, so this will be the first time I actually pick a car up direct from a dealer.

I am a little bit excited, maybe too excited for a 35 year old :D so, apart from the obvious, ie checking the car over, what can I expect from this experience?

Cheers

How did you get on with the new car?

Well, I have had the car for nearly 2 weeks now, so am still getting used to it, but overall, I love it.

I love the space, I love the comfort, I love the feel of the car - really enjoying it at the moment and touch wood, it doesn't develop any problems. The missus likes all the space in the back compared to the Fabia estate and she also says the seats and the ride are more comfortable too (not that we had any complaints about the Fabia, was a great car for us).

Grant at Sparshatts was an excellent salesman, polite, courteous, actually knew what he was talking about and treated me how I would expect to be treated. Very different to how I feel some Skoda dealers have been in the past and especially considering Sparshatts picked up the sale after the Saltdean collapse, I told him I was very grateful to him.

I can't wait to get mine on Friday now.

Grant has left Sparshatts now which is a pity as I always found him nice to deal with too.

When did he leave? I only spoke to him last Friday as I had to fax something over to him.

This week, he was supposed to finish yesterday but he didn't go in. His dad still works there though.

Did you see the yellow vRS in the showroom?

Normally you will be provided with a thorough explanation of the car controls. You should also meet the aftersales team. Check the car with a toothcomb. If it has sat in the showroom, all and sundry could've sat in it. Oh, and a cuppa always goes down well too.

Yeah, he went through everything on the car and the car was spotless, so I don't think anyone had been in it as it had only been there for just over a week.

Why has he left? His decision I presume?

Can't honestly say I remember seeing the yellow VRS in the showroom, I thought there was a blue one when I went in though.

Have to say, if there is one thing that disspoints me on the Octavia compared to the Fabia, it's te radio reception and the overall sound.

Now, I listen to radio 5 a lot on MW and in the Fabia, the reception was always nice and clear (well, for MW anyway) yet in the Octavia, it always sounds 'odd'.

Overall, the sound via FM is fine, but it may just be because I am used to the speaker positioning in the Fabia still, but I just feel that the Octavias sound system is not as detailed.

There is a TSB about radio reception on the Octavia.

Grant has moved out of the Car Sales business, he valued he weekends too much.
