hopefully replacing the turbo will sort out the weird whistling noise on bengies estate...

the questions got to be asked , what hit it ?

and where did it end up?

erm, no idea...but he said there was scoring on the housing, could it have caught on that and bent the vane?

Looks like mine did, basically the bearing start to wear and once it get a bit of play in it then it will start to catch on the housing and curl the blades on the compressor wheel making a sort of screeching sound as it spools up and ultimately slowing it down enough so you struggle to produce boost:mad:

would recomend changing the oil feed pipes to the turbo too or if not replace them at least take them off and give them a clean out because i didn't the first time i replaced my turbo and then it lasted a couple of months before dying in the same way, turns out it was oil starvation that killed the turbos because of a blockage in the feed pipe,i now have two dead k03/s turbos in the garage but since the second turbo and oil pipes have been fitted, all has been well

Funny, that ... I saw one like that today too :rubchin:

Didn't look so blurred when I saw it though :P

but wouldn't all the blades curl up if there was play in the shaft  the turbos i've changed (mainly on Fords) have been pretty far gone to get all the blades to curl up , usually the blades depart the shaft by then though , that does look like somethings hit it , although as someone has said its a blurry picture

Boost can do that to a weak blade.

However, I cant quite see clearly but it looks like the centre nut is missing?

nah, its still there :)

doesn't make the noise anymore though :D

well spotted Ross , it does look like its missing doesn't it

no it isn't missing a bit either :)

ah yes i can see the nut now ,i apologise for my earlier blindness , does the shaft still spin freely with very little end float

I'll have to dig mine out and take some pics but i can see now that its only one blade curled on bengies turbo but all are curled on both of mine

yeah it still spins fine but obviously wasn't a healthy little chappy :)

Blades often bend like that when trying to compress a little more than they can handle. The noise you were getting was down to the bent blade disrupting the air stream I would think. Also goes some way to say why it wasnt that down on power.

Shame about the loose bolt though. I'd be having a word about that myself.

i will do mate, theres a little puddle on my drive and 1 lucky owner sat in doors :)
