What the hell is going on here?

A very nice chap in a white Van took great pleasure in smashing my wing Mirror last night on my way home :gnasher:

As he promptly FEkk'd off without a trace (thinking better of giving chase due to already impending points on License! and horrendous traffic!) I decided to visit Skoda for a replacement.

Imagine my surprise when I found out they charge

actually this is a handy question for me to barge into

how similar parts wise is the octavia to vw Golf/bora

a VW garage is far closer to me than a Skoda garage.........

depends on which parts you are looking for?

Seem to recall that Halfords do replacement glass for about

In my experience, On the three occasions I have required parts, it has been cheaper for me to go to VW - however I've yet to need mechanicals? - parts list as follows:

Centre console arm rest (and skoda specific fixing bracket.)

cruise control upgrade.

wing mirror replacement glass.

seems very odd to me? it's a good job the car is better than those that VW churn out

When was that, as over the past year or so, the entire VAG parts centre has been merged into one with all interchangable VAG parts (Door handles, buttons, air filters, etc) given the same part number and therefore the same price.

there was a time when the Favorit and the Felicia shared the same washer bottle or radiator expansion tank and had diffrerent part numbers and prices (the favorit one was over

I used to have a saturday job at my local skoda dealer's until 5 years ago. As that is where i brought my 2 fabia's, I am still good friends with them and hear things when they moan or things happen that people should know about (ie large price increase due to standardisation or part numbers).

Also, even with the standard numbers, they cannot order anything that is specific to another VAG "brand" eg: SEAT sport stut brace even if they will fit on the skoda equvelant.

Probably just the dealer wanting to get as much money as they can out of the punters or because VW are a higher "quality" brand then skoda.

Others will know more as a few on the forum work on skodas.

Rooboy....it was this year and was in August!!!!!!!!!

Last week I bought new wiper blades at the skoda dealer as they were considerably cheaper than the VW dealers. Not only that but I have booked my car in for the cam belt to be done at the skoda dealer. Why? VW wanted almost "250 and the skoda dealer wants

Were they VAG wiper Blades at the Skoda dealers? A few help the customers by using a different brand where possible (like Esso for the oil instead of Quantum, VAG's own brand)

Some have been known to order parts from other sources (you should know the company i mean) as they are cheaper than Skoda for official body parts.

:cop1:

Rooboy...they were wrapped in plastic bags and were tagged with VAG labels. Genuine VAG bits but were really Bosch wiper blades.

oh. I was only going on what i had been told a while ago, so it may not be everything then.

It would be interesting to know which Skoda dealers are charging these prices - I guess there may be some interesting differences in the prices between Skoda dealers themselves. My local dealer is in Aylesbury, and although they do a good job, I find them pretty expensive, eg

Eek! My car is about to be serviced by Merritts... Better put it on plastic.
