Lowering vRS

Featured Replies

Right hey all im thinking about lowering my 52-03 vRS but not sure if ill like the harsh ride! So im thinking about just buying the lowering springs and put them on my standard shocks for a 1000 miles and see how it goes! if i like it then ill buy the uprated shocks and if not ill revert back to standard!.

Do people think this is a viable idea or should i not bother?

To be honest a huge amount of the cost is in labour... Either do it all in one go or don't bother with the shocks - make the decision before you spend any money.

Be careful what you do with just the lowering springs. I tried Eibach springs with OEM struts/shocks and not good.

Then Eibach springs with Koni FSD's, all this gave was massive oversteer.

Eibach do not make a specific spring for the Octy vRS, so the poundage is wrong, I am now told that Eibach are working on a coilover kit for the Octy vRs, but not available as yet.

Now have KW3 coilovers fitted, and I cannot fault them, dearer I know, but you get what you pay for.

i lowered mine....with spax springs, kept everything else the same.Put 17's on with 215/45 tyres and the ride is super smooth, most people are shocked at how smooth it is:)

What was the poundage of the Spax springs and are they the same, or uprated from the standard Octy vRS ones?

I fitted eibach with bilstein dampers and cant complain at all, the ride comfort hasn't changed but road holding has improved especially over uneven undulating surfaces which the standard kit was always noted down for.

I once changed springs only on my last car, never again the standard shocks cant cope with the xtra poundage increase of uprated ones so i would save up and buy a kit. saves you money on labour and getting your camber castor re adjusted twice.

Eibach do not make a spring for the Octavia vRS, and as such do not advise the fitting of same as they have never done it themselves and it is not TUV approved.

Have been in touch with Eibach direct and that was their reply, hence the move to KW3's and what an improvement.

Most shops seem to offer the Eibach (8576-140) VW Bora spring as being correct for the Octy vRS, and it isnt as the rear poundage is totally wrong.

dont know the poungae of mine ...they were the lowered and uprated ones!!!...have done the job for me for the last two years with no probs:)

k:)

has any one got the KW1 or KW2 kits fitted as the KW3 are a little to much for me

Wayne Kerr has the KW1's on his estate, and it rides very well, but the KW2's are not advised for the Octy vRS as there can be problems with the road holding.

Save up a bit longer and get the KW3's, they are that good.

Have a word with Dean at Awesome about the KW2's or Delcac.

Cheers for that mate. Just asking at the moment but i can feel that suspension will need changing MOT time if you know what i mean :D

As another option - try Koni FSDs with the standard springs (I have these on my car, along with Powerfles bushes and uprated anti-roll bars on the front and rear)

Cornering is virtually flat and the road holding is vastly improved. I would recommend this combination :D
