How to remove engine cover on VRs?

Featured Replies

Just bought a Green air filter and need to remove the engine cover to get to the airbox. I have unclipped the air intake pipe and the pipe coming out near the back so I thought with a little force the engine cover should just lift up.

However no amount of pulling will lift it off. So what's the technique then, - I can't be the first person on here to attempt to remove it!

Cheers

John

does it have the little black turny screw things that the mk1 had? the key is about the right size/shape :)

It is very very tight. As long as you've unclipped the pipe by the MAF and undone the air intake that should be it.

Is there anywhere in particular I should / shouldn't pull? does it detach totally or is it on a hinge at the back...?

Won't this void your warranty?

removing a plastic cover? no.

not just that, I meant replacing the filter

just keep pulling REALLY hard. It WILL come off.

Thanks - that's what I did and it came off eventually!

So I unscrew the engine cover to get to the airbox only to find out the filter I have been supplied is the wrong one. It looked like the same size as I had in my Mk 4 golf therefore I assume they have given me the one for the Mk I Octy VRs.

Anyone removing the engine cover make sure you put the rubber bung things back onto the cover before trying to put the cover back. If you try to put the cover back on with the bungs on the end of the pins in the engine then you will never get it back on. Hope that makes sense!
