Poor Brakes

Featured Replies

BOUGHT THE Mrs A NEW FAB Vrs THREE WEEKS AGO THOUGHT THE BRAKES WERE NOT AS SHARP AS MY OCT Vrs BUT WOULD GET BETTER AS THE WEEKS WENT ON AS THEY MIGHT NEED TO BED IN SOME WHAT BUT ARE STILL SHOWING NO SIGN OF IMPROVING IN MY EYES. THE Mrs HAS NOT MENTIONED ANY THING YET BUT THE FRONT WHEELS ARE COVERED IN DUST AFTER JUST A COUPLE OF MILES. ANY BODY HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM OR IS IT JUST THE WEIGHT OF THE LUMP UP FRONT?:(

Firstly could you turn off the Caps Lock - it's classed as shouting :P ;)

The pads do tend to be pretty dusty.

A common upgrade is to add the 312mm setup as on the Octy I vRS.

Steve, aka golfturbo, a member on here has a good supply of delivery mileage kits removed from TT 225's

Sorry about the cap lock pretty new to posting on here. Might try the upgrade a bit later on when the mrs gets bored as she won't let me play around with her toy yet.

Give the brakes some stick and do some high-speed stops with them. That seems to bring back the "bite" for a while anyway :D

Chris

I've noticed the brakes in the wifes Fabia vRS have a different 'feel' to my Octy vRS brakes. I think it must be just how they are.

Waits for somebody technical to tell me different.

When I drive the wifes Fabia vRS after getting out of my Octavia vRS the brakes

do feel lacking but they do pull up with a good size 10 stamped on them.

When my brakes were new, I managed to glaze them whilst bedding them in. The solution turned out to be to wash the car and put it away for the night without driving it first. By morning the discs had a coating of rust on them which removed the glazing the first time the brakes were applied.

The washing trick is free, so it's worth a try.

i agree with ScoobyChris on this , give the brakes a good hammering a couple of times ,ABS going on etc , this will get rid of any glazing on the pads , should be ok after that

I am soooooooo glad somebody has noticed this problem, I was thinking it was me. I got my Fabia VRS a couple of weeks ago, it is a October 2005 model.

I used to have a Fabia 1.4 100 bhp and I find the brakes on the VRS definitely need a lot more force, (hubby said it was my cr*p driving technique:( )

Anyway, I have driven his Octavia VRS and the brakes are far better than mine.

Maybe its just the way the car is????????????

bugga, bit clicky with the fingers there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yep I have been moaning about the fabia vrs brakes

since I bought the car 18 months ago I think they are

krap :thumbdwn: sometimes feels like pressing a wet sponge

had them checked out at the dealers . but they reckon

they are ok ....... have to say the loan vrs was just as bad!

shame really cos overall very happy with the car ......

but reluctant to invalidate my warranty by upgrading to

312`s ........ probably would`nt notice how bad they are

if I was`nt driving a Peug Partner van all day for work ...

I upgraded mine to the 312's after a year and have not regretted it for 1 second. Personally i'd be more worried about stopping than my warranty. It's only the warranty on the brake parts also and if you buy the deliverey mileage TT brakes as I did they are basically new anyway so will last longer than your warranty surely?

Anyway, i'm far from an expert, I just followed what others have done and have not looked back.

Your dealer won't immediately notice the 312's if they are painted green. As Jifster says it would only be that part of the warranty that you would lose.

There are a set of used 312's for sale in the for sale section at the moment.
