Problem Vibrations

Featured Replies

The problem i have is vibrations through the steering wheel above 50 ish.

Had the wheels rebalanced twice now but no good.

Went for a quick test today. At 80mph the vibration is minimal but you can feel it. Once i put my foot down it increases but if i let of the power and let it coast the vibration goes.

Tried it at 80mph in 3rd, 4th & 5th just to make sure it was not rev related. Same in every gear.

Seams fine around town though.

Any ideas :irked: :irked:

Usually it's your wheels, but as you have checked them twice already then maybe you have a slightly warped driveshaft.

Not sure why it would be bent though, you could try swapping the wheels on the front round with the rears in case one of your tyres is slightly out of shape?

With the second attempt at balancing did you go somewhere else? I had mine done twice at Charlie Browns but I had to go to Kwik Fit to get them done right.

Now there's something you don't hear every day...

I'd get the balance checked elsewhere, after that you're going to have to start digging a bit deeper. I take it you haven't kerbed a wheel lately? Hit a pothole? etc etc...

The trick with Kwik Fit et al is to say 'No, the monkey with the back to front Burberry cap isn't going to do it, you are.' Sorted!

Well my brother has just taken it for a spin and says it seams to be a engine/ecu problem.

Cannot be the wheels as it stops when you let off the power.

Going to put my old filter back on tomorrow to see if that makes any difference.

Just taken the ABD lan kit off and put my old filter back on the car goes so much better :surprised :surprised :surprised Still got some vibration so will swap the front and rears tomorrow but would not of thought the filter would of caused that.

May try to put my filter on the lan pipe & see if thats ok.

Do you think it is because it was remapped with that filter ???????

****ed me off that it runs better on a

I had exactly the same problems with my Fabia SDi. Had wheels balanced, replaced anti-roll bar and links, and it still vibrated under acceleration and whilst cruising. Would only go away under a neutral throttle. Turned out to be both rear front wishbone bushes split. Done under warranty, OK ever since.

Funnily enough after having my Rosso's put on at Micheldever i noticed under heavy acceleration at 50+ i was getting extreme vibrations and like Rich i took it to Kwik Fit to get it balanced correctly! Only real downside of Kwik Fit as far as i can see is they put those crappy balancers on the outside of the wheels instead on the stealth ones on the inside which Micheldever (supposedly  ) do...

Well just come from Kwik Fit.

Had all 4 wheels rebalanced then changed front to back.

There is less vibration than before but the steering wheel still shakes.

Got to take the owner of the shop where i got the wheels from tomorrow so he can see the problem for himself.

Paul, have you jacked your car up and checked the wheel bearings for excessive free play?

Posted by mistake wrong thread

Is it the steering wheel, the dash or the whole car that vibrates? That'll give you a pointer as to where the problem lies.

:Pants: ...kwik fit

not being funny but contact a local www.merityre.co.uk branch and ask if they have the "finger plate balancer adapter" we have to fit most performance pirelli tyre by this method and at Thame oxon we are pirelli gold approved fitters this would elimanate any balance concerns once and for all........tyres could also be out of shape??

It's only the steering wheel that vibrates.

Going to try them on my mates beetle tomorrow.

None of the Merit tyre branch's are local to me.

Had them balanced at 4 places now and every time they are done the vibration gets better or worse. If it was a problem with the car it would stay the same ????
