Getting a new RS in March...

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

I'm getting an RS in about 5 weeks time (03 reg :D ) Is there anything I should look out for when picking it up from the dealer i.e. Is the spare an alloy or steel ? Will the coilpacks be OK? etc.

I'm sure the dealer is quite trustworthy as I've bought from him before, but you never know! The car is currently at his 'storage facility' but I'm holding out for March registration. I'm going tomorrow (Fri) to sort out the paperwork officially, Any bargaining tips?? I'm trading in an Octavia 1.6 Ambiente on a Y reg (Mar 2001). He has offered me

Just a bit ahead of mine then which is currently on the production line and should hopefully be here just before 1st March giving dealer time to get it sorted for collection on the 1st !

Not easy but try and pick it up when it's a decent day and good day light so you're not rushing, that way you won't miss any imperfections with it. Dunno if there's any extras spec'd but on mine the'yre fitting parking sensors and cruise, front mud flaps and supplying carpet mats so i'll be checking all these are there, along with the full size alloy spare.

Yes, the car is specced with parking sensors and cruise control. Don't they come with carpets and mudflaps anyway ?? My Ambiente did. Surely they don't just have the light grey flooring? What about sill protectors, are they standard?

Cheers

Ian

I didn't get any carpet at all with my company one

But I did get a full roll cage and a suede steering wheel :drive:

Hello Didier

Can you please make sure you finish above the Hyundais in the WRC this year? That would make us all very very happy (and a podium or 2 wouldnt go amiss either!)

Cheers 'mon ami'

Rear mud flaps are standard but not the fronts. DOn't think the sill protectors are on the RS either. Mats I believe should be standard fit.

Looks like I'll have to 'borrow' the ones on the current car then

And rob, yep the trade-in is pretty good I guess, that's why I went for it as opposed to going for an import or 'online' dealer (as in What Car 'target price')

Just over a week to go now :) Any tips or advice for a new RS owner ?

e.g. Any suggestions for which fuel is best ? I currently use Sainsburys or Shell (unleaded) for my 1.6. Do I have to use Super unleaded or optimax ?

So many questions....

TIA

Dealer rung me today, all their 03 cars are now on site including my vRS, he has me in for collecting it on 1st March at 09:00, couldn't get it any earlier! Needless to say the Alfa (PX) is now looking a bit dirty, not been cleaned since I signed up for the vRS so 6 weeks worth of crap on it, not to mention the pads are knackered on the front and are now grinding the disk nicely, oh well never mind !!

I shouldnt say then that I,m getting **** on my Octy GLXI TDI estate on a S plate should I, trading it in for a Superb..

Cheers

You dont have to use Super , 95 Octane can be used without damage in the RS , but the engine wont be putting out its full power. I suggest you try to seek out some Optimax , but give it a few tankfulls before you pass judgement , as it is reckoned it takes about 4 tankfulls to 'optimax-ize' your engine! Also remember your car will be new and the engine will be tight , after you have a couple of thousand on the clock you should feel the performance get better....well its an excuse to go on pointless drives anyway!

Advise for an RS Owner is to enjoy the car, grin a lot and come on a Briskoda meet .

Re -fuel - manual states it wil run on 95 fuel but with reduced performance, as I dont use mine as an everyday car I always run on 97 or optimax 98 when available for fill ups. For normal use I dont think you will notice any difference, however when driving on continental motorways I find that the car feels to run better when 98 super was available over 95 for motorway higher speed overtaking aceleration. Never noticed any pinking problems, the engine management unit adjusts well to the fuel used.

Hi Ian,

Nice one in advance on the purchase of your RS and welcome to Briskoda.

RS mats, rear mud flaps and alloy spare are standard on th RS. Front mud flaps and cill protectors are not.

One thing to look out for are the yellow plastic transportation blocks found at the base of the front springs on the front struts. Your dealer should remove these in the PDI (unlike my dealer  )

Oh and check to see if the tweezer tool is in the boot.

I think thats everything, oh try not to smile for long periods it hurts.

Worthit,

See how many of these you go on! You will absolutely love it. I've done about 1200 miles in three weeks and enjoyed every second. Strange thing is you pootle about quite sedately most of the time looking smug and then all of a sudden the road opens up...and you're off! :D

The car should come from the factory set for variable service intervals. Assuming that you don't want it put on fixed service intervals, check that the Service Record, [b:cf510966ba]and[/b:cf510966ba] the sticker which the dealer should put on the RH edge of the dashboard, both say variable servicing.

Is it too late to change your mind and buy a 4x4 Estate? Its a better car... :D

PS Nearly forgot the mandatory vRS wave...

PPS Suggest to the dealer that he gives you a bottle of engine oil for top-up purposes. At

Sorry Rich, had to hijack your post before someone replied in a derogatory manner. Unfortunately they could never have that sensation without even more expense.

Check under front valance for transporter scrapes, hard to prove after driving away, mine was scraped and touched up with a brush with different colour paint by persons unknown

Finbar Saunders here.

Even I'm having trouble with that!

And the transporter scrapes thing has thrown me completely

Thanks for all your replies :)

I was quite happy with my 1.6 until it had to go into the dealers for a service and they let me borrow an RS. One trip down the Epping New Road, shamefully overtaking about 5 cars with ease, and I was hooked!

I'll bed it in and possibly look at getting it remapped/chipped etc. next year (I think I'm hitting the mid-life crisis!)

I'm getting front flaps and sill protectors thrown in (wow!) I'll certainly ask about the oil.

So what's the tweezer thing for? Anything to do with the wheel nuts? Oh, are locking wheel nuts standard??

Again, thanks in advance,

Ian

See "RS shedding wheel-nut covers" in"my maintenance".

See also removing wheels and smearing mating surfaces with Copper grease......

Wiring up second foglight...

Treating seats with............

Treating paint with............

Fitting bigger wheels, fatter tyres, Miltek exhaust, Briskoda sticker etc etc

What fun lies ahead!

You have to ask for the floor mats, dealer through mine in for free. Really do need them as the white/silver carpet gets dirty pretty quick.

Yay, it's here :drive:

It's been raining all day though :(

Haven't found the 'tweezer thing' yet :D
