The Ibiza gains climate and an adjustable passenger seat height. However, what it lacks compared to the Fabia are things like, boot light, glove box light, washer fluid low light, seat off its latch light, build quality isn't as good, suspension is harder - although it doesnt handle any better. The FR seats arent as supportive, but the are a better colour. I also find the vRS headlights way better than the FR ones. The flip key is standard on the vRS - with the boot release too. The vRS has an internal filler flap release, the FR you just pull the flap. Theres soooo many little things that make the Fabia a nicer car imho.

I also think the vRS dials are nicer to look at, and 10x better at night.

The FR should be group 8 insurance, the vRS group 9 - I see no reason why there would be much difference in premium though.

One thing I like about the FR is that there are no blank switches - unlike the Fabia, which unless it has all the options has a row of them. Even with ALL options fitted, there is still a blank button in the Fabia dash!

The vRS should have vRS mats, any mats in the Seat are either genuine naff coloured ones, or aftermarket.

Like I said - all the little things...

What you should do is post this question up on seatcupra.net and then they'll all tell you to buy the Ibiza.

n the Ibiza' date=' but from being in one it just felt (and looked) cheap and tacky inside compared to the vRS. [/quote']I felt the complete opposite, suppose everyones taste is different

I do[/i'] like the boot release on the Ibiza/SEATs though...
Although I do prefer the Fabias keyfob remote release

I think you just sold it to me there Tom! :) I think though it's going to come down to gut feeling and whoever can do me the best deal.

Fabia handles better.

My Bro has a Leon Cupra R and build quality is not quite as good on SEATs.

That said,

Drive them both and buy the one that makes you smile most!!!

It's true.

You very rarely see Skodas being driven along high streets with the windows down and some dreadful "bangin choonz" blasting out for all and sundry to "enjoy".

I don't see any Daewoo Matiz's like that either. Does that make them classy too? ;)

Chris

Indeed it does. Not, perhaps, as classy as a Jaguar - another marque that lends itself to low-noise-pollution driving, but classier than, for instance, a BMW 3 series. Which you will frequently observe being driven in just that manner.

It is not the only way to judge the class of a car, but it is certainly an excellent indication.

:sofahide:

Pixi your not alone.

Having the windows closed probably wouldn't make a difference. I sing so loudly in my car, sometimes I turn the music down so I can hear my own voice :D

i cant turn the stereo up very loud in my fabia because it makes the dash rattle and somthing in the drivers door vibrates and it annoys the hell out of me.....

The Seat ibiza is like the mini1/2 series, its for girls/hairdressers and estate agents. Buy the Fabia

Buy the Fabia

Which is for the blue rinse brigade ;) Ah good old stereotypes

Chris

I had the chance to buy a Seat Ibiza when I got my VRS, the Seat was the same price but a year newer. The thing that threw me apart from the horrible front grill of the Seat was that the VRS looked more sportier. Like yourself I rather would of had climate control instead of air con but i'm glad i got the Skoda - it has a tape player and a 10 cd shuffler cd player in the boot.

Also regarding the wide boy comment, when I said i'd take the Skoda, two wide boys came into the garage in a knackered volvo with 'tunez' blazing and started looking round the skoda, not a glance at the ibiza....................get back ya *******s

Resurrected thread :)

New Year's resolutions and all that. Anyways, my 2p. If you care more about handling and sharp looks than practicality and being understated, get the SEAT. If you're not going to mess around with it, the Fabia is likely to cost less to run and maybe return more dosh when you sell it. My brother has an 06 Ibiza FR 5 door though and I prefer his car over the standard Fabia.

Question: I've spent somewhere in the region of £1000-£1100 improving the handling and performance of my Fabia. (springs, shocks, rear ARB, remap). How much needs "doing" to the Ibiza to achieve the same? At a guess, I'd say maybe its standard springs and dampers work OK and wouldn't need upgrading.

Re the Fabia CD player

When we first got in ours I wondered where the CD player was - it is such a thin slot that you may be missing it.

+ the Symphony player does look a bit like the old style tape players with the >> and << buttons etc.

Check again, I think you'll find it is a CD player and radio.

I've since bought a Fabia vRS and am delighted with my purchase. In relation to the CD player, I'm 99% sure the car I looked at had a tape player as I explicitly remember pushing my fingers into the tape slot! :D

3 door FR would be quicker. Climate control is better. Fabia II will affect residuals.

That said, the Fabia is a Q-car to a degree, shouldn't attract vandals, has the little features that the Ibiza misses and IMHO is less girly. The seats aren't hard to keep clean (can of scotchguard) and the dash materials are much better.

"3 door FR would be quicker. Climate control is better"

it may be quicker, the climate control is better but it still looks gay

Fletch , did you buy a different car to the one you were looking at? If so , does it have a tape or CD?

Yeh I bought a different one to the one I was looking at and the one I bought had the Symphony CD player.

(Although as you can see from my sig, it's been ripped out and replaced with a nice iPod compatible Sony HU and sub/amp :D

I have 3 friends with FR ibizas, there all very nice in there own ways from there mods, but my VRS stands out more than any of theres due to it being completely different. Yes they have climate control, but do they have a fridge in the glovebox and in the little driver compartment under the wheel? lol also from a handling point of view i think the FR anti roll bar is only 19mm, the ibiza cupra is 20mm and the VRS is 21mm, so better anti roll bar....errr...nicer seats, more refined, when u lower the VRS seat to the bottom and the FR seat to the bottom you feel lower in the VRS due to the higher dashboard, but the FR has a nicer steering wheel IMO and nicer wheels. Not really much else to say, appears you have already bought the VRS though?

Crikey

There are some people on here lacking objectivity aren't there?

Fabia is a box but with nice detailing that makes it stand out and look more aggresive.

Ibiza is sleek and understated, certainly not boy racer compared to the pumped up Fabia!

Fabia handles better? Well with a thicker front antiroll bar it rolls less but understeers rather more........... the benfits of the jabba rear antiroll bar are widely appreciated as one of the best mods for a VRS because in standard trim it doesn't have the balance of an Ibiza, although for those prepared to mod their cars, a Fabia with a Jabba rear ARB is then ideal

Ibiza trim is tacky? Well its better than VRS! VRS carpets are much poorer and the poor quality of VRS seat material actually figures as one of the sticky subjects at the top of the Fabia forum!

Ibiza is also 100kg lighter which benefits all aspects of the cars performance dynamics. Ibiza's also come with pikey mod of a vented weelarch liner as standard

Ibiza lacks a fridge glovebox but in other dynamic aspects is the better car......

Yes residuals are lower right now, but if you are buying seconhand it means they are also relative bargains as the main lump of depreciation has already been suffered
