It is interesting that you have a few hundred people supposed to be representing 60 million, and yet really they only represent themselves. We only get asked our opinions on the doorstep before a general election when they are begging for our votes.

MPs ought to have to vote according to a majority referendum of their constituents. Still it must be nice to be able to vote yourself a 26% rise when everyone else is getting 3.2% if they are lucky.

Perhaps we'd better get back to Octy 2's before we all go out and commit suicide!!

And they wonder why punk and the sex pistol clones are comming back.

Maybe it's because the people of this country are once again totally disaffected and feel ignored by buming boy blair and his bush chasing army.

When you look at what we have on offer as candidate and existing MPs you really do wonder just what is the point of voting.

This coupled with our first past the post voting system ensures that the vast majority of us are in effect disenfranchised, because individual votes count for nothing.

All we have on offer are professional, I use that word loosely, politicians most of whom have never worked in anything outside of the political scene and when this is coupled with a civil service who have little or no experience of the real world you can see why UK plc is such a poorly managed business and crazy idea and projects prevail.

And, as they say, "the proof of the pudding..."etc. Only this a.m. I read that they are having to scrap the modern form of teaching kids and go back to the way it was in the 1950s! I.e. sit them down and make them learn by rote, and by the old methods of tables, instead of the modern idea of "find out for themsleves" [As if!]

Perhaps the politicians should go back to the old ways as well. Common sense and down-to-earth practicality. [Not that many of them ever did of course!]

I guess every country has its problems. its just a shame that we could have a realy great country with good roads and a better living for people willing to work. If only our taxes went to the right places. i.e. road tax to roads, NI to pensions, and other taxes to the needs of the country, and by that I mean defence and health. Not prisons and the unwilling and capable.

I think Blair should join this site.

Courage friends! I have it on good authority that a certain Mr. Prescott will take over the reins of power - and we will all have to drive D Types - with fins!

If I wasn't married, I would seriously emigrate to Australia. My cousin moved out there two years ago and he said it's the best thing he has ever done.

Of course. You only have to read the Aussie prime minister's, and his colleagues', comments on immigration to understand at least part of their attitude. "Come in and be Australian and you will be welcome. Come in and try to make Oz like your homeland and you can go straight back to it." By the time our grandchildren grow up I don't think Britain will be recognisable as such. It might not even still have the name. They will probably have to drive their Octys on the right!!

Just had my first variable service at a cost of £183.

The stealer told me a fixed should be no more than £130.

Where did you have the service done? I live in the Midlands and to save

It was Prestige Garage, Lockhurst Lane, Coventry.

I've just been told £285 for my second variable service the approx 40K one and from reading the owners manual they don't appear to do a lot. Change the Oil & Filters other than that it was inspection only. Going to call a few more Stealers as the price appears to vary greatly.

So far I've phoned five Stealers for a price asking for my

"Second Variable Service, on a Octy 2.0TDi 140 54 Plate 04, 40K Miles"

And the quotes have varied from

There's no call for loyalty when the prices are so different - find an independent specialist dealer or any competent garage. Probably cost you 50% to 60%

My 'Local' (40 miles away) Skoda dealer in Inverness have quoted £230 for 1st variable service, car done 19,000 miles. PLUS £40 for Brake fluid change. Total of £270. After recomendation I contacted Nearest VW dealer (1 mile away) and was Quoted £165 + 40! So VW are nearly £70 pounds cheaper! I know where I am going......

Brake fluid shouldn't be changed on a first variable, surely?

Brake fluid shouldn't be changed on a first variable, surely?

The Service book states it must be renewed every two years. I was a bit shocked as well, i must admit.

I was quoted approx 108 for first variable service from st andrews in glasgow. I think you are being ripped of. The service desk said the service only took about 1 hour as its just oil and filter/s change.

They changed the pollen filter on mine too, so add another 5 minutes ;)
