Is that one of them there new-fangled Gatso destroyers you have in your boot?

Jeff

Ref: Kenny's photo of sub in boot - I don't want to be a killjoy or spread doom and gloom, but the "Fifth Gear" programme I saw before Christmas was a sobering experience. For those that did not see it, they demonstrated what happen to stuff in your boot in the event of a crash - not nice . :worried:

Even at 30mph, anything weighing as much as a sub would burst through the rear seats and do serious damage to the occupants. Moral of the story - make sure anything heavy in the boot is secure.

BTW, thanks for the info on your speakers, banjo.

Thanks muchly

Iv'e installed a pioneer DEH P9400MP head unit and am currently running the cabling for 3 amps to be mounted in a rack mounted stealth install in the place where the Polystyrene packer is in the boot, complete with cooling fans to keep temps down. This H/u has all the x overs built in and are fully digitally adjustable for cut off and slope to run seperate amps for sub, mids and tweets, I have a dedicated 800w sub driving a picard 12" sub and Infinity Perfect 6.1's ( yes with a little help from a dremel on that oversize bracket they just go in ( Huge magnets)up front0.

I'm going for stealth install so that I can keep it all away from prying eyes, |I have also run an Aux line to hook up a dension DMP3 player with satellite display mounted on the dash... got the kit just getting the time (& weather to fit it all) will post pics when more complete.

Does anyone have an idea for easily moulding the side recess on the n/s behingd the wheel arch, I want to put in a sub box built from Fibreglass and MDF but am currently pondering how to mould the space it is to fit in. any ideas would be a great help.

I'm assuming you are going to use the fibre glass to do the curved shape and put MDF on the front.

Only played about with fibre glass once before but I would suggest you line the area with plastic sheet, paint it with resin and lay sheets of fibre glass matting on top, apply more resin, apply more matting until you have covered the whole area. Leave to set and repeat until you have built up the layers until about 5 mm thick and leave to set. Now you should be able to lift the whole lot out and continue building it up to the required thickness.

May be worth putting some thin felt on the metal work so you do not end up with the glass fibre rubbing against metal.

The resin fumes are not good for you so work outside not in a closed garage.

Thought I'd share some pics of this install, done by my brother Andrew(Humsk). Regarding Sub unit, it was essential in the design study to ensure quick removal of this bulky item for load space purposes, so the sub is a plug in free standing unit held (securely) by the cargo net. The under floor amp (JBL) powers the sub, the Kenwood powers the mid range and tweeters and it mounted where the CD changer would be.

I'm doing a similar idea but mounting three amps in a rack under the floor with a sub built into a Firbeglass custom made sub box to mount where the cd changer was
