Diesel Particle Filter Removal

Featured Replies

It appears the new generation Diesels are now being equiped with particle filters in the Exhaust to I guess catch soot. If the car does not run the exhaust hot enough then the filter wont burn clean & you start getting fault codes & finally it goes into limp mode.

Having recently had this problem whilst decending a mountain in France I want to remove the filter as I will be in the mountains again next year but you need to trick the sensors into behaving normally.

Has anyone any thoughts or advice on this or know someone who knows the answer.

I believe its going to become more of an issue as more of these cars come onto the road, it will I guess also effect those who want to remap the cars.

I have also heard that it might be a problem on cars that are left ticking over for ages, this might effect taxis etc.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Talk to Michael, he may be able to spoof it, rather like decatting ;)

DPF is still an option on many Skoda's so I wouldn't be surprised to find that it will either run fine without it or that it'll be an option in VAG-COM.

The unoficial work from people who ought to know is that it can be removed but you need to recode/recallibrate the sensors either side. Its just finding someone who can do it thats the problem.

Having done a bit more digging it appears it might only be a problem on Superbs as the Octy one will be sited where it more easily remains at working temperature

Reproduced from Sebastian's website -

Controller coding

STG 01 (engine electronics) select

STG coding - > function 07

Engine identification letter AMX

?? xxx: Exhaust standard/land variant

00 - North America 1

01 - North America 2

02 - ECE15/04 (exhaust standard)

03 - ECE15/04 (exhaust standard)

04 - MVEG 2 (exhaust standard)

05 - D3/D4 (exhaust standard)

06 - North America 3

07 - US exhaust limit values after LEV

08 - GUS/China

11 - with secondary air system, EU4 (exhaust standard)

Would any of these make the required change?? What engine is AMX?

This is Passat B3 -

Controller coding (engine identification letter AMX)

STG 01 (engine electronics) select

STG coding - > function 07

?? xxx: Country/exhaust gas

04 - without secondary air system (EU2)

05 - with secondary air system (D3)

11 - with secondary air system (EU4)

26 - Japan (EU2)

Any way you could retro - FIT it to reduce the smog factor on a car such as mine for example?

No, there is a massive difference in engine mapping and physical parts to the DPF. The Superb/Passat system is very different to the Octavia system. Neither have servicable filters. The Octavia one is self regenerating but the Superb has an 80k (approx) filter in the exhaust and an addiative in the boot (iron filings in a solution) and doesnt regenerate as such.

So can it be removed easily ??

anyone any clearer on this now? can it be removed simply or is it major hassle?

Having read the above I'd say yes, but it seems a long winded process.

Also, why anyone would want to retro-fit a DMF is beyond me!

What ever happened to cat-bypasses and twin Weber's, eh?

Old hat I'm afraid, most people in the know now run on throttle bodies and injection., much better

The DPF is more than a cat, if you remove it without a workaround your car will run in permanent limp mode. It has been suggested that it maybe possible to update the ecu software, but I dont think anyone has tried it.
