Turbo working?

Featured Replies

Okay, I have a Y reg 1.9 TDi Octavia Ambiente. As some of you may remember I've been having a few issues with power on it of late. Basically when accelerating a lot of the time there isn't the power that was once there and it has become sluggish at accelerating up inclines. I wonder if the turbo isn't working. Is there any easy way of diagnosing this? Does anyone know at what points and under what conditions the turbo should kick in on this engine?

I've got 1.9TDI GLX estate, v reg and have been having the same problem since buying it, not very much poke and dreadful at hills. the last straw was a recent visit to wales where most hills required me to drop down into 2nd or sometimes 1st. Like you I felt as if the turbo wasn't working. Took it into my local dealership this week and they found two problems:-

1. a split vacuum hose which they replaced yesterday and seemed to have a little improvement but still rubbish at any incline

2. took it in for them to look at again today and the mechanic went out in it and instantly diagnosed a faulty air mass meter.

Basically what he said it meant was that the system cut off the intake of air before the turbo had a chance to kick in. they chnged it for a new one today and it goes like a dream now. Feels like a different car. Hope this is some help.

Hopefully that will help. It's a problem that only appeared around May/June this year, it was perfectly fine before that. I'll take it in and see what they say.
