4x4 Haldex power distribution

Featured Replies

I'm seriously thinking about the Octy II Scout for my next car and was wondering what the power distribution is to the 4 wheels or is it a FWD car until the front wheels slip then power goes to the back?

Also I've heard of uprated Haldex controllers, do these enable you to set the power distibution i.e 50/50 or all to the rear?

Cheers for any help

The second generation Haldex controller (as will be fitted to the scout) is more sophisticated that the first gen. one, and offers some of the features that the "uprated" controller did for the 1st gen cars. For instance, wheel slip is not always necessary for power to be transferred. I'm sorry I can't be more specific, but I think that one of the improvements is that the coupling can lock whilst pulling away so that, in really slippery conditions, you don't the instability caused by the rear wheels suddenly engaging while you have the throttle open ... pulling away uphill on sheet ice will be a little easier, I expect :D

Doesnt the ordinary octy 2 have haldex 2 system(the latest one)?, anyway the haldex 2 system use 90/10 in ordinary conditions, so you could say its an fulltime 4WD

Cheers for the info guys, much appreciated.

Haldex 2 can also transfer 100% the power to the rear if needed.. wonder how well a rwd octy would handle :D

Not as far as I know it cant, the front will allways be driven, there is no way of physically disconnecting the front drive, that is constant. Al the Haldex can do is direct more power to the rear diff. And it does this with as little as 30% slip on the Haldex 2 (the Haldex 1 system required 70% slip).

An in car adjustable controller is available for the Gen2 system. APS have one on their APS300 converted R32 and its awesome.
