Facts Of The Day.......

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Well got back today from holiday in Jersey.... 10 days of alcohol, eating & chillin' :) Along with watching the airshow which is actually free, goes on for half a day and is probably one of the biggest / best in Europe!!!!!

But anyway i digress.... While i was there i picked up a few useless facts which i thought i'd share with you all...............

1. There is no road tax in Jersey..... Instead they have a fuel tax which puts prices to roughly the same as on the mainland UK.

2. There is only one dual carriageway on the island....... With a max speed of 40mph!!!!!

3. A lot of the country roads / lanes only have a speed limit of 20mph due to the narrowness of the roads.

4. There is no way of telling how old a car registered on the island is other than looking at it's logbook!!! The number plates are made up of the letter J followed by between 1 & 6 numbers. They do not show what year etc the car was logged. And are not always issued in order. But the smaller the number the older / more expensive the reg..... (The lowest we saw whilst there was J6 which was on some dignitries Grand Voyager).

5. Every year or so sought after reg's are auctioned off whith all proceeds going to charities!!!

6. All hire vehicles are distinguished by a red panel with a white H on the left of the numberpates, Where the country ID is normally placed.

7. And for those of you thinking about moving out there the current waiting list / waiting time for residancy is approx 14 years!!!!

With regard to facts 2 & 3 what i want to know is why there are so many CTR's and Porches !!!!! And also the first car dealer you come across on leaving the airport is the Aston Dealership :D :D :D

Good night all

Cheers

Dave.

not the place for a brisk odian to live then. 40 mph? :D

The one we have here in Eastbourne is 4 days long!!

You forgot the cost of the property out there. Because of all the tax loop holes the rich and famous love it and buy up all the property as an investment, sending prices sky high. Probably why the young couples born on the island cannot afford to live there anymore.

I like the way people park, they just block you in, then leave the keys in their cars for you to move should you wish to get out.

Jersey did a huge recruitment drive for Nurses two years ago and a couple of my colleagues went for it, so you can get in before 14 years in some cases:) And they were offering a hike in wages

I guess they probably were only allowed to rent property though.
