Octy Rear Wiper Problem - In Dealers Today

Featured Replies

My octy vrs is in the dealers today to have the dodgy rear wiper looked at (it comes on whenever it feels like it).

My gut feeling is that it's the switch stalk but does anyone know if there's a control box that runs from this?

I'd like to have an idea of what's wrong for curiosity's sake really.

They've given me a rather horrible fabia 1.2 htp which appears to be missing a piston, turbo and about 120 bhp :( - it's worse than my missus's corsa 1.4 16v, at least that goes when you floor it  .

Even she decided against wanting a furby now after seeing and driving it last night !!!!! (Although the stench of fags inside the car probably didn't help! - it's only done 1800 miles some people are so ignorant  )

:bump:

Just spoken to the dealer and they are ordering a new wiper motor so I get my vrs back tonight :) but I have to book it in again :( .

I wouldn't have considered the motor to be at fault but I suppose with modern stuff it's possible - anyone have any thoughts on that???

Doesn't make a lot of sense! Where's the power coming from to turn it on of it's own accord if the switch is off? (Which is what I assume you mean when you say it has a mind of it's own...)

I'd have agreed that the stalk was the most likely culprit, but hey they're the experts eh?

Yeah I thought that but when I picked the car up tonight I spoke to the manager and just asked him what was up with it and he said at first they were worried I had messed it up (presumably with my ICE install) but they had another octy in the workshop and swapped the motor over (mine to the other I guess) and when he slammed the boot shut the wiper went on it's own!

My thinking on it is that there must be a permanant 12v supply to the motor so it can complete it's cycle after you turn the switch off, which means there would also be some sort of microswitch inside to tell it the "home" position.

They reckon it's an earth fault or something in the motor - all I know is it hasn't done it on the drive home but I won't be holding my breath on it!

Did get a free bottle of washer fluid though as I didn't have any cash and they couldn't be bothered to process a card for

Oh joy of joys the bl**dy thing's doing it again today  .

I had the rear wiper motor replaced under warranty on the 22nd and thought my problems had disappeared - hit a small bump in the road on the way home tonight and caught movement in the rear view mirror, just once.

Then it did it another four or five times on a flat straight road coming home - had to flash the stalk around again to stop it.

It's now booked into the dealers again for a few weeks time, yet another low performance loan car :( . (Don't get me wrong, I appreciate getting a free loan car but it's somewhat frustrating when you're used to a vrs to have no power at all!!!)

So I'm back to thinking it's the stalk again unless anyone has any other suggestions???
