Sure Denis can remind us of which cars are which as I cannot. Although I think if you ask for non long life you get mobile 1 0W-30...which would be Ultra X

nice find there Pikestan.

grr hot linking protection on the image...soon solve that.

The cynical view would be that the only people who need to worry are those using variable servicing and longlife oil and they need the Ultra X - everyone else just carries on using whatever they were using before.

if it says for example vw 505.01 as an oil spec anything that meets that spec is okay, I only posted as an indicator that Skoda had thrown their hat in with Shell rather than the usual VW line which appeared to be Castrol.

Some people for example use Castrol GTD in a PD engine, 'good luck to them'.

You pay your money and take your choice.

Stan, I'm sorry, I wasn't meaning to pour cold water on your work - it's very useful - all I meant was that oils meeting the fixed servicing standard are plentiful, but those meeting the variable servicing standard are few and far between, so that will be the most useful part of the information.

I think the hardest part may be finding any of the stuff. At least it's an alternative to Castrol SLX II. I'll have a shufty next time I'm filling up at my regular Shell station to see if they have any. I doubt if it will be a great deal cheaper, though.

Shell Helix Ultra X 0W-30 has been around for at least as long as I have owned my 4X4, ie since June 2002. As the label says, it's a LongLife oil for the latest generation of Skodas - petrol and diesel - on variable servicing. Which reminds me that when I visited the motorway services on the M54 at Telford last November, there was no sign of any Longlife oil on sale there. I wonder how many of the motorway service stations deo stock Longlife oil.
