water inside car problems

Hi there, i hope im in the right place to ask questions, if im not, sorry for any hassle.

My question is this, has anyone encountered problems with water and wet carpets underneath the passenger seat in a skoda superb comfort model 130 bp tdi, its an 03 plate.

I thought it may be air con related, so closed all the vents on the fornt of the car, turned on Auto air con, and hoped i would notice condensation coming form the vents undreneath the front seats. i never noticed anything coming from the vent, not even air . Now unless im a total muppet ( wouldnt be the 1st or last time ) i assumed there would be an increase of air !!! maybe not . so i turned off the engine and then i noticed a pool of water running from underneath the car somewhere in the region of where the front seat would be approx be. Maybe the water came out of the car because the front vents were closed, ive never seen anything come from under the car before . Any help from anyone greatly recieved , i am going to book it in to the garage, but if i have a general idea of what the problem could be, then they may not be able to baffle me with bull ****.

It will be either the air con drain tube partially or completely blocked or ill fitted so the condensation doesnt exit the bottom of the vehicle or it will be the pollen filter/housing.

The reason for seeing the water in the rear first is the floor pan slopes backwards and the rear of the carpet is alot thinner than the front so it come through that first. Make sure than when you cure the leak that you remove the carpet and remove all water. Its also worth checking over the crash sensors for the airbag system. They mount n the floor under the front seats and quite often get very wet in these cases, I havent seen one water damaged as yet but I allways check. Also check the wiring loom that runs along the n/s in the footwell, the interior lighting harness runs along there and the is a node joint the quite often corrodes and breaks apart.

And both of the above problems are very common on all VAG vehicles on this platform.

I think it may be a problem with water leaking from your pollen filter housing. If I remember rightly the drain on the housing can easily get blocked with leaves and gunge and the water builds up and overflows into the passenger footwell.

I think this is a common problem on a lot of VAG designed cars.

I part exchanged my Superb Comfort 18months ago for a new one. I then saw it in the garage with the front seats out. It seems that there had been a water leak in the NSF footwell. The silencing padding is quite thick and had acted like a sponge. By the time it was discovered water had got into the wiring and a whole new loom and computer was required. It seems it isnt a common problem thank goodness. I am now on my fourth Superb and continue to enjoy driving it.

If the dealer is not very helpful or suggests that you will have to pay for the repairs, speak to Skoda Customer Care. They eventually agreed to pay for the diagnosis on my 52 plate comfort last month, and then all the repair costs following the diagnosis of a leaking pollen filter housing.

I picked up my 52 plate low milage Superb yesterday all the carpets were dry. Last night it threw it down, it was almost biblical, it was so bad that we abandoned the tent we were staying in at a motorcyle rally, and went home to sleep in a dry bed. When i opened the rear passenger door this morning i saw that the rear footwell was about 2cm deep in water. I checked the passenger carpets at the front and found them to be damp, so it looks like its coming from the front. I'll go and check the pollen filter housing/drain, i dont think it will be the air-con because i havent used it yet.

Can someone tell me the proceedure for removing the pollen filter? Is it in the same place as a MK3 golf? Under the scuttle panel passenger side?

Remove the rubber sealing strip which secures the plastic cover under the bonnet which runs the width of the car, just below the windscreen. The part you need to free is just the bit securing the cover - it just pulls off. Now pull the plastic cover towards you, and carefully remove.

The pollen filter is then clearly visible - its removal is obvious. It's worth checking the plenum chamber drains whilst the cover is out, but the vital one is under the battery and you need to remove the battery tray to get at it.

It's a shame Skoda did not rectify this lousy piece of VW design.

I've had the pollen filter out but i cant see any drain tubes leading from the pollen filter casing.

They aint in the pollen filter casing. The drains are under the battery and the brake servo.

I've also got water coming into the front passenger footwell, but as i've noticed a trickle coming down the side walls of the foot well from under the door i'm sure its the door seal. Although the seal looks fine, it leaks after driving in a heavy downpour or if i wash the car with a hose. Anyone else with this trouble? Can it be rectified by a new seal or does it simply call for a slight readjestment of the door so it closes tighter?

Hi, if you disconnect the battery does it affect any codes, ie stereo, sevice intervals,etc,

When my battery was disconnected the ABS computer died - getting on for 1k later it should be fixed tomorrow.

Looks like checking out this drain hole could cause even more problems so, is there any way of getting at it without disconnecting the battery.

not just drain under battery: check the drain channel immediately under and on right of pollen filter. it's not much more than a channel - crap in here causes draining water to tip into the pollen filter and come in the car. also check rear door drain holes, but it's prob something to talk to skoda about. soaked courtesy units are a *pain* long term...

its the pollen fillter tray you will need to take out the pollen fillter its self and then the tray is on 3 screws throw it away because its only 17 euro in skoda to replace it that in ireland anyway you will then have to pull the carpet out or it will stink pulling the carpet out is a pain in the *** best of luck

Hi.I have the same problem with a late 02 Superb Comfort 130Bhp. The problem is a leak around the pollen filter ....common fault on Passat's and unfortunately Superb.

Have you any problems yet with your central locking / windows / interior lights / alarm ? All mine not working.Just had mine in with Skoda garage this morning and they told me its such a big problem it will cost too much (too many labour hours) to fix , recommend I bring it to someone who specialises in wiring .

First problems first you'll have to get the leak fixed , then wiring fixed (if corroded).

I have an 04 PD130 Classic thats now done 52,000 - I had the water problems just before Christmas with over an Inch of water slopping around in the rear passenger seat footwells - my local dealer (DFMC Maidstone) was very good, they recognised the problem as blocked drain holes under the battery, modified them and kept the car for 3 days to dry it out - only downside - they forgot to put the footwell vents back!
