Service after 5,000 miles

Featured Replies

Just had my service light come on after 5,000 miles in the car

I was told when buying the car that it would be given a fulll service before buying it and its now saying I need a service after low miles.

I need to speak to the manager of the garage about it but he is unavailable at the moment so I just wanted to know if people thought that being promised a full service before purchasing an Ex-demo was out of the ordinary?

just they seemed surprised when I said it should have had one (which incidently it didn't actually have) and unfortunately the sales guy I spoke to doesn't work there now

got my fabia 2nd hand from a dealer - was "serviced" before delivery (probably just an oil/filter change, but at least it's stamped in the book!).

was your service book not stamped on pickup ? if not, probably not done.

If the guy who "promised" it you doesn't work there anymore, I'd still go for it. At the worst, you could ask them to do the service at half price ?

Had a similar discussion when we bought SWMBO's Fabia. Dealer said they "would service it if it needed it or was near a scheduled service interval". As it was 5,000 miles off it's next scheduled service and there was a clear history showing the previous service was carried out, we agreed that the "next scheduled service" would be done FOC.

If they haven't done the previous one as you negotiated then try and get this one done free. Of course they could have failed to reset the service indicator, either way go back and make them sort it out!

How many miles were on it when uu bought it and how many now it says it wants a service. If it's on variable servicing they are on average evry 20K Miles, so if it is nearly 20K now it doesn't sound like it was serviced when you got it.

Same engine in the wife's Touran wanted its first service at around 9500. As she does mainly cold start/town driving, rather than prolonged motorway cruising, this seems reasonable. It's now on fixed 12 month/10k servicing though, as the oil is cheaper!

I know perhaps we don't warrant a diesel, but I really love surfing the torque... Been driving a colleagues 2.4 A4 convertible - felt gutless compared to the Touran !
