This is showing my ignorance, but just how many marks of golf have there been, and what mark is the Octy based on. Also I recently read that there was a new Golf about to be released, what mark will this be? Is the Octy based on current golf mark or is it one step behind?

No I was not trying to wind anyone up. I was curious that is all. I knew that the Fabia was based on the current Polo but was not sure about the Octy.

Strangely Skoda seem to be a bit behind with the Octavia this time but I think I'm right in saying that they had the mk4 platform before the mk 4 Golf came out and they certainly had the new shape Polo platform on the Fabia before that was released.

Dont know about Europe but the current Golf model was on sale in the UK before the Octavia, but didn't the Octy come out in Europe in 96?

I know I'm only really repeating what Rich said but it's the other way round: the Fabia came out at least two years before the current Polo. Presumably the next Octavia is based on the latest Golf. Of course you could argue that the latest Golf is based on the new Audi A3 as that came first.

SWMBO thrust an article under my nose on the new Mk5 Golf as we're looking at replacing her Audi A4. Come to think of it though, I don't know whether I could live with the humiliation of downgrading. :smileyrai

To be really posh you could tell people that the Octy is based on the Audi TT chassis.Regards David
