Thanks Stu, I just got the part number of K too.

Just belled my local dealer who says (sp) Colbourne Garages in Guildford have one or a couple of London dealers have them too. He did say that they are on back order with VW and to phone before traveling.

I too have spoken to my local VW garage, and although he told me the same thing, he did mention that a London dealer showed one in stock. I got the phonenumber of him and gave them a call. Bingo!

Shame that they close at 6 and I am nowhere near them :(. Have arranged with them that they keep hold off it until tomorrow 6 so I can collect it from their garage. I do wonder if it is going to be the correct part though as Phil measured the current line and it seems to be approx 570mm long, whereas every single reference I can find to the length of the replacement is 435mm long. Way too short as you can imagine.

The two lines should be at the same place.

Ah, so it is the G which makes the difference. That brings me hope as I quoted the whole part number. The ones I found online where without the G, of which I didn't know what the significance was.

But at which end? I'll have to slap K a bit (if I can stay out of reach of the big hammer ) next time I'm up for service

As you look at it the clamp needs to be rotated around clockwise about 15 degrees and go down as far as it can.

If you notice the shape of the bracket is like a jigsaw piece to the bit on the strut. The should lock together.

Spot on Stu:thumbup: its defo; the 563mm one and as i told Q all the others come in at 435-440mm

Here`s hoping he can get the part to get it fixed although i`m booked up a bit for Mot`s at the moment. :(

Lucky you found it really Phil, could have been nasty. Just goes to show that much as well hate MOT's they are for a good reason.

And we are back in business. Collected the brake hose from Alan Day VW dealership in Hampstead (many thanks! ) and got it fixed by Phil (many thanks! ). He did the MOT afterwards and although it failed on (as I would call it) 'generic' emissions, when he repeated the test for the car specifics, it passed without problems... pfew!

Glad i could help Q...... It failed the BET test on emissions so i had to do a vehicle specific test, possibly something to do with the exhaust hey Q??? print this off and show e Mrs Q, maybe a nice stainless pipe would look good:P
