Octy RS - which factory builds it?

Featured Replies

Can't seem to find out anywhere, but are all new Octy 2 RSs still built in Vrchlabi or has it all been moved to Mlada? Also, what models (if any) are built in Vrchlabi now?

Reason for asking is that I still have the feeling that Vrchlabi-built Skodas are better built / more reliable and if I get a new one I want it to be a Vrchlabi one. :thumbup:

I think all new shape Octavias are built in Mlada, the Superb is built at Vrchlabi isn't it?

I think the Roomster is being built in Pilzen.

Superb was Kvasiny AFAIK. Vrchlabi used to only be specialist stuff like the Mk 1 Octy RS and 4x4 but don't know whether its all changed now :confused:

Bit out here,

Kvasiny Superb and Roomster and has painting capacity for other models from other plants.

Skoda Auto do not build cars at Pilzen. Skoda Holding (skoda.cz) thats is not Skoda Auto it Skoda Holding is a seperate engineering company.

Mlada Boleslav Octavias and Fabias and not as far as I am aware still do not produce the Octavia RS

Vrclarbi Octavia's RS and other specific Octavia models

Explains why the 4x4 is so much better built than our standard one prior to it.

Our tour guide informed us that Both the Fabia Rs and Octavia 2 Rs are being produced also in small numbers at Mlada, in order to keep up with high demand.

as above. and I wouldn't worry about them being inferior quality from mlada, because I seem to rememeber them saying that all the engines for VW and audi get built in that factory too because they do it better! :confused:

A lot of the Engines for Audi are built in Gyor in Hungary, not sure about VW though

Dont know about Audi, but ALL of the 1.9 pd, and 3 cyl 1.4 engines are built at Mlada, we were told anyway.

Yeah I probably wasn't listening, I couldn't understand her!! I knew some of them other than just the skoda ones were made there though! lol

That might explain why I thought I'd seen Mk2 vRS's parked inside the Mlada plant when I was there, they were inside the door...over to the right hand side (in what looked like some sort of test area.). I asked our tour guide who said they weren't made there, but I thought the Race Blue ONLY came in the vRS (I assumed that it may not have been the case for other countries). To hard to argue...her english was excellent but still slight language barrier.

The last 6 digits of the VIN are the body number. The digit immediately before that (i.e. 7th from the right) is the factory, where:

3, 4 or N = Mlada Boleslav

6 = Kvasiny

7 = Vrchlabi

X = Poznan

... according to Etzold's book on the Fabia.

The were a couple of RS Octavia loaded on the train outsdie ready to leave so it looks like they may have had some there. As Shifty says they told us the Fabia vRS was already being built there and and the Octavia soon to follow.

Engines are one thing and they do seem to be built at various different factories.

I am still more concerned about the "build" quality (i.e. who screws the whole thing together) - and think Vrchlabi seems to do it better maybe because of lower volume / higher spec and profile cars :confused:

Thansk for all the info - must make sure any new RS I get has the "7" in the VIN :thumbup:
