Chewed McGard wheel bolt removal - Help!

Featured Replies

Glad this has been sorted now mate. not a nice feeling when you know the tyres are worn and you can't get the wheels off. Especially when the fuzz can give you 3points per illegal tyre now!!!!!

I use an old 18mm deep six sided impact socket and give it hell.

How would you get on with the High security SL version?

Would you still be able to get a purchase?

Also would'nt this damage the wheel bearing?

cheers

Halfrauds sell a locking nut removal kit - Its like a socket with a thread in it. Might be worth a try.

AA Patrols carry a heavy duty removal tool that uses an impact driver and several different ends that can cope with most types of locking wheel nut. The socket is also shielded to prevent slippage. It wont work in 100% of cases but has a pretty high success rate.

Often using a T Bar or a Spider brace works well as you distribute the force more evenly than using an L shaped or 90 degree brace that damages the nut or tool if the nuts have been overtightened

An Air impact wrench will still often work with a damaged tool or nut as it shocks the nut loose.

Lastly drill it, pop mark the centre and increase the drill size until the nut head gives way. Drill with a slow speed and using plenty of engine oil to cool the drill tip.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck!

Woops, sorry youve done it, I should pay more attention! Tips might help somebody else though !
