Dump valve noise

Featured Replies

Have a Carbonio CAI and a Forge DV on my vRS.Love them but occasionally it sounds like the dump valve has a stutter ( not really sure how to explain it any better).Usually on changing up.it's as if maybe the gear change isn't smooth but haven't worked out anything that i'm doing differently.i'm hoping it's fairly normal.any ideas what it is?

I have a Carbonio CAI, and a standard DV, mines also does this, as far as i'm aware it is the wastegate but i maybe wrong, if you watch the world rally championships you'll notice most of the cars make this noise

A Wastegate is essentially a device that bypasses some exhaust flow around the turbine section of a turbocharger to control maximum boost. A wastegate is usually controlled by a pressure actuator that is connected to manifold pressure. The wastegate is normally closed, held shut by a spring inside the actuator canister. When preset pressure limits are exceeded, the actuator progressively opens the wastegate, allowing exhaust flow to bypass the turbine, thus regulating manifold boost pressure.

Now, i maybe speakin crap but i'm sure that one of the more technical members will help:D

I've also heard that it maybe something to do with the difference in pressure on either side of the turbo and the air attempts to go the wrong way through the turbo and thats where the noise comes from!!!!!!!

Help please technical dude's:confused:

Our Octavia does it too, usually if you floor it in third from very low revs then lift of at about 3000 rpm.

Seems louder when the car is under load on a hill or something.

I quite like the noise and wish it did it all the time

I wouldn't worry about it. It show's it's working :)
